Moving towards his career, Giovanni began dancing at age 14. He decided to become a dancer after watching Come Dancing, a television show about ballroom dancing competitions. Specializing in Latin style, Pernice has won several competitions, including the Italian Championship 2012.

In 2015, Pernice appeared as a professional dancer in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing for her thirteenth series. He partnered with former Coronation Street actress and model, Georgia May Foote. They reached the final of the competition but ended up as runners-up alongside Kellie Bright and her professional partner, Kevin Clifton.

In 2016, Pernice returned to Strictly Come Dancing for her fourteenth series. He partnered with TV presenter Laura Whitmore. Week 7 was eliminated in a showdown with Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton, Series 14 champions, and finished ninth.
