Mexican Independence Day
Mexican Independence Day Monday, 1 January 2024
A significant national holiday, Mexican Independence Day is observed on September 16 every year to honor Mexico's liberation from Spanish colonial domination. It's a federal holiday in Mexico, also known as "Día de la Independencia" in Spanish.
It's a time for introspection, solidarity, and lavish festivities that highlight Mexico's colorful past and steadfast sense of patriotism.
This important day honors not just freedom but also the history, resiliency, and cohesion that characterize the country of Mexico.
The celebration of Mexican Independence Day honors the tenacious spirit that contributed to the establishment of a free and independent Mexico.
The lovely celebration of Mexican Independence Day begins in the evening of September 15. The Mexican president opens it with a reenactment of "El Grito de Dolores" from Mexico City's National Palace.
Festive fireworks and a sense of unity and pride in the country greet Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla's historic cry for independence in 1810.
One of the main features of the festivities is the colorful parades. Marching through the streets with pride are people dressed in traditional garb, waving flags and carrying banners featuring national symbols.
The parades showcase Mexico's rich heritage and promote a sense of pride and unity among onlookers through vibrant folk music, dances, and cultural performances.
A colorful aspect of Mexican Independence Day is street festivals. Food vendors specializing in mouthwatering Mexican fare fill the streets.
National Hangover Day
Although National Hungover Day is not a public holiday, businesses and educational institutions are closed on that day because it coincides with New Year's Day.
In 2015, a group of friends from Arkansas created this day. They got to talking about national holidays and how some days have so many holidays associated with them while they were dining together at Oven and Tap. They decided to establish National Hangover Day on January 1 after quickly realizing that it was essentially just known as New Year's Day. In November of 2015, the official proclamation for this day was approved.
National Hangover Day is more of a day to learn how to feel better after having too many drinks than it is to celebrate. Although there are numerous scientific methods for preventing and treating hangovers, on National Hangover Day, individuals share their personal hangover cures on social media.
Tiredness and aches in the head and muscles are the main signs of a hangover. Some also experience nausea and vertigo that lasts for the majority of the day. It's definitely not a nice sensation.
Emancipation Proclamation

Former slaves were also permitted to enlist and be admitted into the armed forces by the Proclamation. On September 22, 1862, Lincoln issued the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

National Bird Day
Each year on January 5, people celebrate National Bird Day. This holiday serves as a reminder that birds, particularly those that are migratory, are an endangered species in the United States. It draws attention to the ways in which each of us can help safeguard birds and their environments, both in captivity and in the wild.
The Avian Welfare Coalition and Born Free USA established this day in 2002. Their mission was to raise public awareness of the problems facing American birds and avian awareness. The holiday was set to fall on January 5th in order to align with the annual Christmas Bird Count. This is a citizen-run scientific survey that lasts for three weeks and monitors the state of the native bird populations in the United States.
Whether you are an avid bird watcher or a novice, there are plenty of ways to celebrate National Bird Day.
Observing birds is a fantastic thing to do on this particular day. You can get a bird identification book and try it yourself, or you can join a local group that goes bird watching. This will help you gain more knowledge about the local species.

Every year on January 16, there is an anti-holiday known as National Nothing Day. As implied by the name, today is dedicated to doing nothing at all. not even observe the holiday! It is intended to provide Americans with a respite from the hectic schedule that follows a time of many holidays and festivities.
Journalist Harold Pullman Coffin of the San Francisco Examiner founded National Nothing Day in 1972. Coffin created this non-holiday because he wanted to give people a whole National day where they could just sit down and not worry about honoring or celebrating anything. He was tired of seeing different groups take up days on the calendar for themselves.
Obviously, doing nothing at all is the best thing to do this day. Depending on the individual, this could mean different things. All you need to do is figure out what being idle means to you.
