The latest data from Downdetector, which tracks real-time user reports, shows that outage complaints have declined from earlier peaks but remain well above normal levels for Verizon. As of the most recent update, more than 37,000 users were still reporting problems — a figure that would be considered unusually high on a typical day.

Northeast Remains a Major Trouble Spot

The outage map continues to highlight the Northeast as a key hotspot, particularly New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. However, reports are not limited to one region. Persistent issues are also being logged in Boston, Washington, D.C., Florida, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, underscoring the nationwide scope of the disruption.

User comments and firsthand reports suggest that service problems are still affecting customers in Massachusetts, Alaska, Mississippi, Maryland, Virginia, and New Hampshire, among other states.

For example, some customers on Visible, Verizon’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), report no disruption at all. Others remain completely offline. In one case, a Verizon customer reported having no service, while another family member had one bar of signal with 5G, enough to browse the web and place some calls — though not all calls connected successfully. A third device on the same account showed only LTE connectivity.

These mixed results suggest that service restoration is occurring unevenly across devices, locations, and network segments, rather than through a clean, system-wide fix.

“SOS” Mode Persists for Some iPhone Users

In dense urban areas like New York City, some users continue to see “SOS” instead of normal signal bars or 5G indicators on their iPhones — even after trying common troubleshooting steps such as restarting the device, toggling Airplane Mode, or performing a soft reset.

While newer iPhones support Emergency SOS via Satellite, that option can be difficult to use in major cities with tall buildings and limited sky visibility. As a result, satellite messaging has not been a practical fallback for many urban users still affected by the outage.
