September Holidays: Full List of National Days Around the World And Celebration
An Overview of September Calendar: Holidays, Observances Events
Around the world, September is a beautiful month. In the Northern Hemisphere, the leaves are changing color for autumn, and in the Southern Hemisphere, it's warmer and the start of spring. Here are some of the best things to do in September around the world.
When you think of September holidays, Labor Day on the first Monday (time for a cookout!) is the first one that comes to mind. However, that's just the start. September has 30 days, and each one has its own set of holidays, events, and special days.
Another two weeks pass, and on September 17, the full Harvest Moon happens. In China, this is celebrated with the Mooncake Festival.
We also honor some of our favorite artists on the days they were born, like American folk artist Grandma Moses on the 7th and children's author Roald Dahl on the 13th. Another important person to remember is Grandma and Grandpa on Grandparents Day, September 8. This holiday always falls on the Sunday after Labor Day.
As of September 22, the autumn equinox, it is officially fall. That means it's almost time to wear sweaters! There are great times to celebrate some of our favorite fall foods, like acorn squash on October 7 and dumplings on October 26.
September A lot of holidays that are fun in the fall start in the ninth month of the year. August was the sixth month of the Roman calendar, which came before the Julian and Gregorian months. In Latin, Septem means "seven." There were only 10 months left at the time. Number Pompilius added January and February to the calendar in 700 BC. This change made the length of a year on Earth more accurate. September became the ninth month on the calendar because of this. |

Ice lollipops are a popular summer treat, no matter what you call them.

V-J Day (the official end of World War II)
Victory over Japan Day, or V-J Day Day celebrates the day that Imperial Japan gave up and ended World War II by giving up all of its weapons. The first news of Japan's surrender came out on August 14, 1945 (and August 15, 1945 because of time zone differences), and the official end of World War II was on September 2, 1945, when the surrender document was signed.
After a year, on August 14, 1946, President Harry S. Truman signed an order making that day Victory Day. V-J Day was first celebrated across the United States on September 2, 1948. It went on until 1975, when Arkansas was the last state (after Rhode Island) to stop celebrating it.
On September 2, people in the US remember V-J Day. In Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, North Korea, South Korea, and the UK, it is August 15.

Cromwell’s Day
Oliver Cromwell was a British general, a Puritan politician, and Lord Protector of England from 1653-58. On Cromwell's Day, we honor him.
Every year, the Cromwell Association in England holds a service next to the statue of Cromwell outside of the Houses of Parliament. This day was picked because it was on this day in 1650 that Cromwell won the Battle of Dunbar and then took over Edinburgh, which is the capital of Scotland.
The next year, on September 3, his army beat the last big Scottish Royalist army at the Battle of Worcester. Cromwell also died on this day in 1658. He most likely got septicaemia, which is blood poisoning, after having an infection in his urinary tract.

National Wildlife Day
Colleen Paige, an expert on pet and family lifestyles, an animal advocate, and a former EMT-Medic, created National Wildlife Day to raise awareness about animals that are in danger all over the world.
The goal is to understand how important it is to protect these animals and find ways to do so. Also, it's a way to thank zoos and animal shelters for their work in protecting animals.
The first date was February 22. Steve Irwin was born on September 4, 1942, and was an Australian zookeeper, TV personality, wildlife expert, environmentalist, and conservationist. On September 4, 2018, an extra day was added to honor him.

Weather & Seasons of SeptemberThere are fewer days to be outside in September, but that doesn't mean you can't still go outside and enjoy the last few days of summer. In the Northern Hemisphere, September is the first month of fall. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is the first month of spring. The Harvest Moon is a good name for the full moon in September. But because it's called the "Harvest Moon," this full moon does sometimes happen in October. It is, after all, the one closest to September, the start of fall. It is called the Corn Moon in September until the Harvest Moon comes out in October. |
