In its two seasons, Amazon Prime's The Boys has quietly emerged as one of the best, savviest shows on television. Though from the outside it looks like a generic "what if superheroes were bad" narrative, it's a devastatingly sharp critique of American corporate structures and the horrors they have wrought. (Or have... Vought... if you want to be more specific.) With a Season 2 finale that was characteristically bloody but left a lot of hanging questions, fans are clamoring for Season 3. Here's what we know about it so far.
The Boys Season 3: Release Date
The Boys season 3 does not have a release date yet.
Filming has begun on the season, as evidence by several of the cast members posting photos on social media. In his post, Karl Urban mentioned the health precautions that are in place on set, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Season 1 took four months to film, while season 2 needed five months. Season 3 could very well require six or more months, since the pandemic makes productions a lot more complicated.
Post-production could last for months as The Boys is heavy on visual effects. The first two seasons premiered 10 months after filming concluded.
So, if The Boys season 3 filming finishes in August 2021, it's possible fans won't see the episodes until May or June 2022, according to Tomsguide.

From the on-set photos above, we can deduce that Urban, Quaid and Moriarty will be back along with main cast members like Antony Starr as John/Homelander, Dominique McElligott as Maggie Shaw/Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train, Tomer Capon as Serge/Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female and more.
| There will also be at least two new face when season 3 of The Boys premieres. The latest addition to the cast is Katia Winter (Dexter) as Little Nina, who has worked with Vought and used a version of Compound V to make new supes. Jensen Ackles of Supernatural fame is also set to appear in the series as Soldier Boy. This character has been referred to on the show in the past and has been described as "the original Superhero”, listed by Digitalspy. |

Again, we’re going to have to go by previous years to tease out details for this one in the absence of any hard and fast information about The Boys season 3 – at least, in terms of footage.
The Boys' second season trailer debuted surprisingly early in December 2019, some six weeks after filming had finished. The Batman showed you can cut together a sizeable trailer even if you haven’t filmed everything, so there’s still hope yet for the first glimpse of The Boys season 3 to come in a mid-to-late 2021 trailer, Gamesradar noted.
Is Stormfront gone for good?
Homelander's Nazi girlfriend Stormfront (Aya Cash) was burned to a crisp by his son in an effort to protect his mom, the wife of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), mumbling in German on her way out. But is she gone for good? Nope. Kripke confirmed in an interview with TV Line that she's very much still alive. "So the best poetic ending for that character is someone who so believed in some kind of pure race finds herself mutilated and having to live with it for potentially centuries felt like a fate worse than death for her," he said. "So no, Stumpfront is not dead." (He calls her Stumpfront.)
When will it premiere?
We still don't know exactly when the new season will debut, but it is in the works. The show went back into production February 2021. The first episode on the roster is called "Payback," which implies will be diving into the Soldier Boy plot immediately. According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 3 will also include an episode called "Herogasm" tackling an orgy plot from the comic books. Get ready for a wild ride, Thrillist cited.
