Sweet Tooth – the upcoming Netflix series based on the DC comic of the same name – will drop some of the darkness of the original graphic novel.

In a new making-of video, which you can watch exclusively on IGN, executive producers Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey explain that the series will honor the novel, but will take a slightly different approach.

At last, we have a release date for Sweet Tooth — the show will start on Netflix on June 4 2021. The production had wrapped filming in New Zealand in January — after a big break last year due to the pandemic — so we knew it wouldn't be long.

What is the plot of Sweet Tooth?

A devastating virus known as “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the world, and in its wake led to the rise of hybrid humans, babies born part animal and part human. Unknown if the hybrids were caused by or the result of the virus, many of the remaining humans choose to hunt the hybrids. A young hybrid by the name of Gus ventures out of his forest sanctuary with lone wanderer Jepperd, and together they travel across what remains of America in search of answers.

Who are the stars in Sweet Tooth?

Christian Convery stars as Gus, leading the cast of Sweet Tooth as… well, Sweet Tooth! The co-lead is Nonso Anozie of Game of Thrones fame, inhabiting the role of Tommy Jepperd, a grizzled survivor in the apocalyptic world of Sweet Tooth. Also along for the ride: Will Forte as Gus' father, no stranger to a TV apocalypse as the star of Last Man on Earth; here, he looks a bit more James Potter than usual.
