Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, is set to release later this year. After a period where it looked like Sony and Disney might have ended their ongoing collaboration, everyone’s favorite web-slinger will be returning in what’s set to be the most ambitious movie in the series yet.

Spider-Man: No Way Home: Release date

Spider-Man: No Way Home will release on December 17, 2021, assuming there are no production delays and theaters are open then. It will be the last release in what’s set to be a jam-packed year for MCU films, with Black Widow, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings all scheduled to hit screens before it. Of course, that's assuming the world of cinema isn't hit by further Covid-related delays – which is hard to predict right now, Techradar noted.

Spider-Man: No Way Home: Casts

Holland is definitely back as Peter Parker. From the few photos that have already been released, we can confirm that Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ and Batalon will return as Ned Leeds. Marisa Tomei returns as Aunt May. In addition to these veterans of previous MCU Spider-Man films, Benedict Cumberbatch is set to make an appearance as Doctor Strange.

The big question is to what extent some veterans of the non-MCU Spider-Man films –– Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and the two Amazing Spider-Man films from Marc Webb –– will be appearing. Jamie Foxx is already confirmed to reprise his role as Max Dillon a.k.a. Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Alfred Molina seems set to return as the villain he played in Raimi's series high-water mark Spider-Man 2.

This wouldn't be the first time the MCU Spider-Man has brought back a character from an earlier appearance; the once and future J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) returned in a mid-credit sequence of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The revival of villains from multiple Spider-franchises seems to give credence to the oft-repeated idea that the film will also involve once (and future?) Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in some capacity, and possibly even their love interests Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

Holland has denied his predecessors involvement vociferously this month in Esquire and again on Fallon, but we think he doth protest too much. It wouldn't be the first time audiences have been lied to about Spider-Man, Looper cited.

This isn't exactly concrete, but We Got This Covered is claiming that Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin will be the main villain for Spider-Man 3. We wouldn't be surprised to see Norman Osbourne abusing the powers of the multiverse for greedy gains.

Previously, Kraven The Hunter was expected to be the big bad for Spider-Man: No Way Home, but (no offense) his powers don't seem strong enough to stop three Spider-Men, Tomsguide reported.

Reports suggest that Sony Pictures may be holding onto a Spider-Man 3 trailer, that it's just waiting to drop. Why wait? Supposedly they need Tobey Maguire to sign on the dotted line. That means we could see the trailer any day now. And we really want to see this trailer, if all the above casting news is correct.

Spider-Man: No Way Home: Predicted Plot

Our best guesses on the plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home are somewhat hamstrung by the uncertainty surrounding its cast.

It's safe to say there will be significant fallout to deal with from the mid-credit sequence from Far from Home, where Jameson played a video from Quentin Beck a.k.a. Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal a.k.a. Taylor Swift's ex) revealing to the world that their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is Peter Parker. Said fallout may even involve an appearance from another notable name, with rumors having it that Marvel Television's Daredevil, Charlie Cox, may have shot scenes for the film. His alter ego, the attorney Matt Murdock, may prove more useful to Peter at the moment.

Spider-Man 3 title: What does Spider-Man No Way Home mean?

After fans had their fun guessing the title as things like Home Run and Work From Home, the cast has been got in on the action. When Holland, Zendaya and Batalon each released a new image from the movie on February 23, they each 'revealed' the title for the movie: Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker and Spider-Man: Home Slice. But it only took another day for Sony and Marvel to officially confirm the title for the third movie as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Digitalspy noted.
