Black Widow - Release Date and Schedule
“Black Widow” will open in theaters on July 9, 2021 but it will also launch on the studio’s streaming platform Disney+ on the same day.
The release change for “Black Widow” falls as major studios continue to push out their releases either in theaters, on PVOD platforms, or a combination of both.
How & Where to Watch Black Widow
Disney has launched recent tentpoles “Soul,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” and “Mulan,” in similar fashion, with the latter two falling under the “Premier Access” banner where it costs an additional $29.99 to purchase the new release.
The Walt Disney Co. on again overhauled its upcoming movie-release plans, postponing many of its biggest films and announcing “Black Widow” will stream on Disney+ the same day it hits theaters.
“Black Widow” will also fall under Premier Access. The MCU tentpole was originally set to open in May 2020 before the pandemic pushed it first to November 6, 2020 and then to May 7, 2021.

“Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences,” Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney’s Media & Entertainment Distribution, said in a statement.

What is Black Widow?
“Black Widow,” the highly anticipated Marvel superhero movie starring Scarlett Johansson that had its release postponed last year due to the pandemic, had been expected to premiere in newly reopened theaters May 7, kicking off the traditional summer blockbuster season.
Black Widow takes place after the events of Marvel’s 2016 film, Captain America: Civil War, and stars Florence Pugh, Ray Winstone and Rachel Weisz alongside Johansson.
In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

If the vaccine roll out continues to move in the right direction it could increase consumer confidence and encourage audiences to return to theaters.That, in turn, could mean solid numbers for the film given that Marvel is the most reliable driver of box office numbers around.
