There’s an abundance of exciting new titles premiering on Netflix and Hulu in March. Entertaining films like Crazy, Stupid, Love, Training Day, The Dark Knight, and Rain Man were just added to Netflix, while The Social Network, Wedding Crashers, As Good as it Gets, and the cult classic Cocktail are now streaming on Hulu, Decider cites. But NBC has also delivered its fair share of exceptional new content. Last month, Young Rock and Kenan debuted on the network and later tonight, New Amsterdam returns for its third season!
The synopsis for tonight’s season premiere states that “the team is reeling from the pandemic” and that “a plane crash lands.” Decider’s here to make sure you don’t miss a minute of the action. Will New Amsterdam Season 3 be on Hulu? How can you watch New Amsterdam live?
Here’s everything you need to know.
What time does New Amsterdam Season 3 come out?
The season premiere of New Amsterdam airs tonight (March 2) from 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
What time will New Amsterdam Season 3 be on?
New Amsterdam Season 3 will return to its original timeslot: Tuesday nights at 10 p.m.
Which New Amsterdam cast members are returning for Season 3?
Ryan Eggold as medical director Dr. Max Goodwin, according to Parade.
Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom, head of the emergency department
Freema Agyeman as Dr. Helen Sharpe, head of oncology and deputy medical director
Tyler Labine as attending child psychiatrist Dr. Iggy Frome
Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, head of neurology
Who is leaving New Amsterdam for Season 3?
Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) said goodbye to New Amsterdam to move to San Francisco with his fiancée Evie (Margot Bingham) at the end of Season 2. But the question that was left unanswered when New Amsterdam had to wrap its season early is if he is gone for good. That won’t be revealed until the show returns, but if this Instagram is any indication, it looks like he will be back in some capacity.
How to watch New Amsterdam Season 3 live?
If you have a valid cable login, you can watch New Amsterdam Season 3 live on the NBC website or NBC app. You also find a New Amsterdam live stream with an active subscription to an over-the-top streaming service that offers NBC. Thankfully, there are a variety of options, including YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, fuboTV, Sling TV (in select markets), or AT&T TV NOW.
Fubotv offers a seven-day free trial for eligible subscribers.
Will there be any new characters in New Amsterdam Season 3?
According to Schulner, the addition of Daniel Dae Kim last season as the very smug Dr. Cassian Shin, the new head trauma surgeon, is it for now. Kim was brought on for five episodes, and his character, as introduced, couldn’t be more different than Max.
“That’s one of the reasons we love the character and what Daniel Dae Kim did with him because he has no interest in changing,” Schulner told TVInsider. “What he does works for him. How he works, works for him. He didn’t come to New Amsterdam to save everyone. He came to New Amsterdam to save trauma victims. And if he is off being quixotic like Max is, he won’t be able to do his job.”
Are there any New Amsterdam Season 3 spoilers?
Several story arcs had been underway in Season 2 when it was forced to wrap early. It looked as if something was happening between Karen Brantley (Debra Monk), chair of the board of directors at New Amsterdam Medical Center, and Kapoor; Iggy was working on the possibility of adopting another kid, and Bloom and her mother were making strides to heal their relationship. Whether any of that will now be picked up in Season 3 remains to be seen.
“In Season 3 we have to rethink everything,” Schulner told TV Guide. “Their priorities are going to change after this pandemic. I don’t think we can force storylines on a new world we’re living in—it would ring false. They’re going to change.”
Ryan Eggold Previews the Toll of COVID, Says It's 'Time to Address' Max and Helen

As reported by TV Line, New Amsterdam‘s Season 3 premiere put one of the hospital’s own in serious jeopardy, revealing that Dr. Vijay Kapoor contracted COVID and is still not out of the woods. With the muscles around the doc’s heart ravaged by the virus, Max called upon on the best cardiovascular surgeon he knows for help: Dr. Floyd Reynolds, who had moved on to a new job in San Francisco last season.
Below, showrunner David Schulner and executive producer/director Peter Horton break down the premiere’s big developments, including what Reynolds’ return means, and discuss the show’s “more human” approach to telling pandemic stories.
TVLINE | Were you concerned about the fact that the show was coming back in March, after most of the other broadcast dramas had already returned and tackled COVID?
PETER HORTON | Yes, in a word. [Laughs] No one wants to have their show be off the air for a year. Then again, this year is so jangled and turned upside down that this abnormalcy is something people, I think, are expecting and not reading too much into or being thrown too much by. But no, we’d much rather have been able to come on sooner. It’s just there was really no way to do it.
DAVID SCHULNER | One of the reasons why is we filmed in real hospitals at Bellevue in New York and Kings County in New York, which were 70 percent of our stages that we used. Our sets were in these hospitals. When it was clear that we couldn’t film in these hospitals anymore, we had to build an entire hospital from scratch, and that’s one of the reasons that we started shooting much later than everyone else.
HORTON | As far as the subject matter goes with the pandemic, it’s sadly continued, so it’s not like we’re coming on after it’s over. It’s just as relevant today as it would’ve been in the fall, when we normally would come on.
The time has come for New Amsterdam to confront what Max and Helen’s feelings are for each other, according to star Ryan Eggold.
Following last season’s near-confession, “it’s sort of time to figure that out, for better for worse, whatever that means. It’s time to sort of address it,” Eggold tells TVLine in the following Q&A.
But first, Max and the rest of the doctors at New Amsterdam must contend with the devastating effects of COVID as Season 3 kicks off this Tuesday (NBC, 10/9c). Below, Eggold previews the toll of the virus on the hospital staff and how Max is handling being separated from his daughter in the midst of it all. And of course, the actor talks all things “Sharpwin.”
