Melania Trump was born Melanija Knavs on April 26, 1970 in Novo Mesto, Yugoslavia (currently in Slovenia).
She served as the country's first lady before her marriage to Donald Trump, the 45th president. She was the second non-native first lady after Louisa Adams.
Melanija Knavs's parents both worked in the textile sector while raising the family in Sevnica, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia). Britannica states that she attended the University of Ljubljana for a year before dropping out to become a model.
Melania began her modeling career at age 16, and two years later, she signed with a modeling agency in Milan. She attended the University of Ljubljana for a year before dropping out to pursue a career in modeling.
Melania started out as a fashion model in Milan and Paris before moving to New York in 1996. According to Biography, she was able to establish a steady career as a model there, appearing on the covers of magazines like Harper's Bazaar (Bulgaria), Vanity Fair (Italy), GQ (for which she posed naked in January 2000), and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and working with renowned photographers like Patrick Demarchelier and Helmut Newton.
Knauss first met Trump in 1998, at a fashion industry event in New York City. He separated from his first wife, Marla Maples, in 1999. After a long courtship, Trump and Knauss tied the knot on January 22, 2005, at his Palm Beach residence in Florida. This is their first marriage for her, and his third.

After initial acclaim for her address, it was revealed that she had plagiarized from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech.

Melania Trump kept a low profile after that until just weeks before the election, when she defended Donald Trump against multiple charges of sexual assault and harassment. On November 8, 2016, Trump defeated Clinton and was elected president; he assumed office on January 20, 2017.
While Donald was preparing to move into the White House, he told reporters that Melania and their son Barron would stay in New York City so that Barron could finish the school year at the private school he attends on Manhattan's Upper West Side. In June of 2017, Melania and Barron joined the President at the White House.
