How to watch the Premier League in the UK on the Official TV Channels

Which UK TV channels have football TV rights for 2024/25?

For the 2024–25 season, six broadcasters will share the rights to show live English, Scottish, and European football on TV:

• Amazon Prime Video

• Sky Sports

• TNT Sport

• BBC

• ITV

• Premier Sports.

It's too bad that no single broadcaster can show all of the competitions. Different channels sometimes even get different rights to the same competitions.

If you want to know where to watch live games from the Premier League, the Champions League, the Carabao Cup, or any other major competition this season, this table shows you.

But keep in mind that you can often find highlights online or on free-to-air channels. As an example, this year the BBC will show highlights from the Champions League for the first time. Sky Sports will do the same for the Premier League.

How many the Premier League matches does each broadcaster have?

Sky Sports - Cheap edeals and offers

Sky Sports is still one of the biggest sports broadcasters in the UK, even though it doesn't have as many TV rights as it used to.

Sky Sports shows more than twice as many English Premier League (EPL) games as any other network. This includes all first-pick matches, which means they can show the best game every weekend, as well as football on Monday and Friday nights.

Sky Sports is also the only place to watch live games from the English Football League. You can also watch all the Carabao Cup games and a lot of live Scottish Premier League (SPL) games.

Cheap NOW Sky Sports Memberships

It might be better to buy NOW passes for Sky Sports as and when you want to watch them if you're a more casual football fan or if you only want to pay to watch your own team play.

NOW (which used to be called NOW TV) has the following Sky Sports Passes:

• Day membership – £14.99

• Six-month saver membership – £26

• Flexible month membership – £34.99.

There are many ways to save money on NOW memberships, even though some of these prices may seem high. Check out our list of the UK's best streaming sites.

These deals change all the time, so look for deals before you pay the full price.

Watch Sky Sports for free on Sky channels

Sky used to show the same game on both Sky Sports and Sky One. In the past, this would only happen on rare occasions, like the first game of the season or around the holidays. Now, Sky One gets at least a couple of games every season.

However, Sky One is no longer in business. Sky Showcase and Sky Max have taken its place. There have been games shown on Sky Showcase before, so it's something to keep an eye on.

A lot of the time, Pick will also show these games. Freeview lets you watch this channel. It was also used to show some Sky Sports games for free when fans weren't allowed into stadiums. But sometimes this doesn't happen. How can you watch Sky channels for less money?

You could save a lot of money by switching to a different type of NOW membership if one of your team's games is ever picked for Sky Max or Showcase coverage, or if you just want to watch whichever game they pick.

With a NOW Entertainment Membership, you can watch both Sky Max and Sky Showcase. Even if you only pay for it once a month, the membership RRP is a pretty fair £9.99. This costs less than the Sky Sports Day Pass and gives you 29 more days. To get it for £6.99 a month, you can join the six-month saver plan.

There are many ways to get a cheap NOW membership. To avoid repeating ourselves, read our guide on how to stream movies and TV shows for less.

The 2024–25 Premier League season is the sixth year that Amazon Prime Video has the rights to show some League One games.

Until the end of the 2024–25 season, the streaming service is the only one that can show 20 Premier League games.

Even though 20 games might not seem like a lot, there are some really great ones in there.

How to watch BBC and ITV without a TV Licence

The BBC only has the rights to one competition this season. Every Saturday and Sunday night, they show highlights from the Premier League on Match of the Day. It's a good one, though: the FA Cup, which it shares with ITV this season.

ITV will show at least 20 FA Cup games each season, while the Beeb will show up to 18 games.

Beginning with the first round, they will each show at least one game per round. At the end of the season, both BBC and ITV will show one semi-final. The final will be shown live on both channels.

You might think that the BBC and ITV are free since you can watch them on Freeview, but you do need a TV license to watch them... sometimes.

Television Licensing makes a big deal out of the fact that you need a licence to watch iPlayer. However, we've found a legal loophole (which TV Licensing confirmed) that lets you watch live TV without paying for a licence.

TV Licensing uni loophole: Students don’t need a licence to watch BBC iPlayer

Even though the law has changed to make it so you need a TV license to watch BBC iPlayer, this small detail means that most students won't have to pay at university.

We found a way around the rule that says students might not have to pay for a TV license.

In the beginning, the BBC said that the licensing law would be changed in January 2017. This change would mean that people who downloaded or streamed BBC iPlayer shows would have to pay for a TV license.

Back then, we told you that the changes had to be made by September 1, 2016, which was suddenly pushed up. This happened at the same time that students went back to college, which was a shame. The decision is still in effect now.

TV Licensing has also made it clear that students have a lot to do with their choice to make the changes.

We quickly learned, though, that there was a way for the exact people TV Licensing was trying to reach—students—to get out of jail free.

How to Watch Live the Premier League Matches on UK TV for Free

For those who don't want to pay to watch live Premier League matches on UK TV and can't use the above tips to watch games for free, there is one more option: go to a pub or bar that is showing the game.

It's likely that the students' union will show games on Sky Sports and TNT Sports. Most likely, this is the least expensive way to watch live football on TV (since a pint costs less here than at a normal pub).

You should probably go to the pub if your SU hasn't bought Sky or TNT Sports. If that doesn't work, you could always complain that your tuition should be going to good causes like these.

You can count on Wetherspoon pubs to have almost everything else, but Sky Sports or TNT Sports are almost never available. This is one way they keep their prices so low. You'll have to find a different pub to watch the game, which is where Fanzo comes in.

The Fanzo (formerly MatchPint) app is useful because it tells you which pubs and bars in your area are showing the sports event you want to see. Plus, Fanzo will sometimes give you a free pint when you get there!

The only bad thing is that pubs and bars have to give Fanzo the information they need in order to be on the app. It's likely that the places listed on the app are showing the game, but that doesn't mean that places not listed on the app aren't showing it too.

And while it's technically free to watch football at the pub, you might want to compare how much it would cost to watch it at home to how much you'll spend on food and drinks.
