After emerging through the Under-18s, the talented central midfielder quickly made his mark for City's Development Squad to become a regular among the starting XI in Premier League 2.
In the summer of 2019, meanwhile, Dewsbury-Hall captained a young Foxes team at the annual Hong Kong Citi Soccer Sevens tournament - a role previously held by fellow graduate Hamza Choudhury. After winning the Club's Development Squad Player of the Season award in 2019, he signed a new contract until 2022 before making his senior debut in an FA Cup tie at Brentford in January 2020.
In the 68th minute at Griffin Park, Dewsbury-Hall replaced goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho to help City secure a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup during a 1-0 victory over the second-tier Bees. Following that occasion in the capital, he then embarked on a maiden loan spell of his career at Sky Bet League 1 side Blackpool, scoring four goals in just 10 appearances for the Tangerines.
Another loan spell, at Luton Town in the Sky Bet Championship, followed in 2020/21 as Dewsbury-Hall's talents made headlines in the second tier. The young Foxes midfielder made a total of 40 appearances in all competitions for the Hatters, netting three goals.
After being instrumental as Nathan Jones’ side finished 12th in the Championship, the 22-year-old received the Ian Pearce Memorial Trophy, given for most man of the match performances at home in ratings from the Luton News, Junior Supporters’ Player of the Season, Internet Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season at Kenilworth Road.
His return to Leicester City action included an appearance from the bench in the Club's FA Community Shield victory over Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in August 2021. A Premier League debut, on the other hand, followed on 28 August, from the bench, in a 2-1 win at Norwich City.
More substitute appearances would follow before a full Premier League debut at Aston Villa in December. Four days later, a maiden goal in European competition followed as Dewsbury-Hall struck for the Foxes in Italy during a 3-2 defeat by Napoli in the UEFA Europa League.
Over the Christmas period in 2021, with the sound of his name being sung to the tune of Oasis' Wonderwall, Dewsbury-Hall continued to impress, helping Leicester to successes over Newcastle United and Liverpool, as his rapid emergence continued at speed.
A second European goal, in the UEFA Europa Conference League, arrived against Randers in February, before a maiden Premier League strike - an excellent hit from range - came in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace two months later. A player with real quality and tenacity, there is much excitement about what the future has in store for City's No.22.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gets Uefa recognitionThe recognition keeps coming for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after he was included in the Europa Conference League team of the tournament. After being named Leicester City’s young player of the season and players’ player of the season earlier this month, the homegrown midfielder has now received an accolade from Uefa. He is the only City player selected by the governing body’s ‘technical observers’ and features in the team alongside the likes of Tammy Abraham, Chris Smalling, and Dimitri Payet. City dropped into the tournament after their elimination from the Europa League, and came through three two-legged ties against Randers, Rennes, and PSV before they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Roma. Dewsbury-Hall started all but one of those games, scoring in the 4-1 home win over Randers. His performances caught the eye and he has been selected in the best 11 for the inaugural running of the competition. Roma went on to lift the trophy, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in this week’s final. The task for Dewsbury-Hall now is to kick on. Manager Brendan Rodgers has told him he needs to add more goals and assists to his game after finishing the campaign with six in total. After the 23-year-old won the players’ player of the year award, Rodgers said: “When your peers give that recognition to your work, it means a hell of a lot. He was pretty speechless. He is a players’ player. He puts the work in. Alongside his quality, he gives so much to the team. “I know from the conversations we’ve had, it’s about him keeping improving. He’s 23 now, he’s not 18 or 19, it’s taken him a wee bit of time. But now he’s in, I know he has the appetite to improve and get better. “He knows in this game that if you stand still, someone takes your place. He’s very determined to not let that happen. He’s a joy to work with, a great young guy, who will keep improving and getting better. “(He needs more) goals and assists. I’ve said it to my wide players, I’ve said it to my midfield players, I’ve said it to James Maddison. When you’re an attacking player and playing in the position Kiernan plays in, you need to create goals and score goals, as well as press the game. That’s something he can add to his game. “Also, the education of football. It’s understanding and getting a better view of the game, but that will come with experience. Tactically he’s improved a lot, his understanding of the game at the highest level, the tempo, the speed of it all. “He’s only going to get better. We’re going to have more time working with him next year, coaching on the field and improving a lot of the details in his game. If he can add more assists and more goals to the natural part of his game, that will see his development continue.” |
