Many British Fighters Have Been Captured in Ukraine by Russian Force

Last month, two British citizens, Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, who were arrested in Mariupol, were sentenced to death by a court in the Donestk People's Republic (DPR).

A British aid worker who was detained by Russian separatists in Ukraine died earlier this week.
Paul Urey is believed to have died "due to sickness" on 10 July, according to information his family has received from the Foreign Office.
Officials from the DPR said he died in captivity from underlying health conditions and "stress".
And, another British mercenary was captured by Russia force in Ukraine since May, 2022.

Sunderland man John Harding has been captured in Ukraine by the Donestk People's Republic, and a video has been released of him appealing to Boris Johnson for help. He has been told he could face the death penalty.
John Harding is alive. The former commander of the YPG Tactical Medical Unit, he was captured in the Siege of Azovstal and is sentenced to death in the DPR.
He had been fighting in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region since 2018 before he was captured.

He was not a official member of UK Royal Army.
Harding was taken prisoner at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, where he was in the ranks of the neo-Nazi Azov regiment. Previously fought in Syria as a mercenary.

John Harding said in the video that he could be executed, begs Prime Minister Boris Johnson to influence Mr Putin and Mr Zelensky to be released.
In the video shared on the Telegram app, Harding was interviewed by Russian journalist Kim Marina.
The British fighter said he could be executed, adding: "I will plead with Boris Johnson that, if I can help and influence Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky or The head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic then please the British Prime Minister do it. Our lives depend on it. If you can, please help us".
Harding is believed to have been captured by Russian forces in May while the British national was fighting with the Azov battalion in the city of Mariupol. After intense Russian air strikes, Ukrainian soldiers, Azov battalion and foreign citizens fighting on the side of Kiev, had to lay down their weapons and surrender.
Friends and family of Harding have confirmed to the BBC that the person appearing in the video is John Harding. The UK Foreign Office is supporting Harding's family. Foreign secretary Liz Truss has called death penalties handed out to other British people in the region ‘sham judgements.
Later in the video, Ms Marina asks Mr Harding what his last words would be to his daughter Katherine if he was handed a death sentence.
Mr Harding replies: "Obviously, I would tell her that I wish I'd spent more time with her, but I didn't. I don't really know."
When he asked if he would tell her if her loves her, Mr Harding takes a puff on a cigarette before saying: "Of course. All fathers love their daughters."

DPR officials said Urey died from multiple underlying illnesses and "stresses". The DPR accused Urey of having "mercenary activities" in Ukraine. Ms Marina writes in a post accompanying the video that the clip will be featured in a documentary she has made called "Nazi Punishers", and adds that "two Britons have already been sentenced to death" in the same cell. She doesn't name the men, but British fighters Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, who were both captured in Mariupol, were sentenced to death by a Russian proxy court in the DPR last month. |
