Musical/Rom-com: The directorial debut feature from actor/musician Rudy Mancuso is a coming-of-age musical about a Brazilian man in Newark. Mancuso also stars alongside Camila Mendes, Francesca Reale and J.B. Smoove.

Drama: The Tom Ripley novels by Patricia Highsmith, which were previously made into the 1999 motion picture The Talented Mr. Ripley, will be adapted into eight episodes starring Andrew Scott (Fleabag). A stylish thriller set in the 1960s, directed and written entirely by Steven Zaillan (The Night Of) and shot in unusual black and white, follows the titular con man (Scott) as he is hired by a wealthy man to find his son in Italy and bring him back to New York City. Ripley, which was first ordered (and fully produced) by Showtime before that network offloaded the finished series to Netflix in a cost-cutting measure, also stars Dakota Fanning, John Malkovich, and Johnny Flynn.

Drama: This covert "gender-bending" detective series, written by screenwriter Mark Protosevich (The Cell, I Am Legend), was first ordered by Apple in 2021 following a bidding war that also involved Netflix. Colin Farrell plays the title character, John Sugar, a private investigator hired to locate the granddaughter of a legendary film producer, Amy Ryan. Other cast members include James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Nate Corddry, and Dennis Boutsikaris. Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) and Adam Arkin share directing responsibilities for this modern noir series. Streaming today are the first three out of eight episodes.

Comedy: Often compared to Curb Your Enthusiasm, the Tim Downie-led Britcom Hapless (which finds the Outlander star playing a journalist for the fictitious Jewish Enquirer) makes its American debut today as all 14 episodes from seasons 1 and 2 arrive on Peacock. (Just to make things a bit more confusing, note that the show is a Netflix original in the UK and once briefly appeared on Prime Video as well.)

Drama/Sci-fi: The long-running post-apocalyptic role-playing game series Fallout from Bethesda is the most recent videogame franchise to hit the small screen. The TV adaptation of Fallout, which was developed by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan of Westworld, is based in a post-nuclear Los Angeles and has an original plot that is yet to be revealed. Its retrofuturistic, 1950s-inspired visual style is reminiscent of the games. The ensemble cast also stars Michael Emerson, Sarita Choudhury, Leslie Uggams, Johnny Pemberton, Zach Cherry, Frances Turner, and Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, and Ella Purnell. The first three episodes, which are directed by Nolan, are all available to stream now along with the remaining five.

Drama: Michael Douglas stars as Benjamin Franklin in an eight-episode historical drama about the statesman's game-changing mission to France beginning in 1776. adapted from Stacy Schiff's book A Great Improvisation. The series comes from Kirk Ellis (John Adams) and Howard Korder (Bordwalk Empire) and is directed by Tim Van Patten. The first three episodes stream today.

Animation/Comedy: The voices of Gerald Anthony Johnson, Jay Pharoah, Yvette Nicole Brown, Marsai Martin, JB Smoove, and Norman Lear are heard in an animated revival of the 1970s CBS sitcom. Ranada Shepard (Born Again Virgin) is the showrunner, but Seth MacFarlane, Stephen Curry, and the late Lear are also producers of the new show. Lear also voices a role.

Drama: A24's seven-part adaptation of the 2015 Pulitzer-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen comes from Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Decision to Leave) and Don McKellar and stars Robert Downey Jr. in multiple roles. A melange of cultural satire, dark comedy, historical drama, mystery, and espionage thriller, The Sympathizer follows a half-Vietnamese, half-French communist spy known as "The Captain" (Cowboy Bebop's Hoa Xuande) in the closing days of the Vietnam War and his later exile in the United States (and work in Hollywood) following the fall of Saigon. Sandra Oh also stars. Park directs the first three episodes, including tonight's opener, with Fernando Meirelles and Marc Munden handling the remaining four.

Reality: The late night host turned podcaster returns to TV with a new series modeled after his Conan Without Borders travel specials. All four episodes—which take O'Brien to Ireland, Norway, Thailand, and Argentina— stream today.

Drama/Comedy/Fantasy: Greg Berlanti is the producer of the most recent DC Comics adaptation, which was originally ordered by HBO Max in 2022 as a Doom Patrol spinoff before being sold to Netflix, where it is currently an extension of the Sandman universe. The characters are based on Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. In particular, Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew, two relative newcomers, portray a pair of ghosts who team up after death to look into paranormal crimes on Earth. The show, which was adapted by Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant, Supernatural), stars Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell (returning to her Doom Patrol role as the Night Nurse), Kassius Nelson, and Lukas Gage. Yockey also serves as showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz of Sweet Tooth. There are eight episodes available to stream right now.

Comedy: Idris Elba is back as the title character in a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 miniseries spinoff that takes place in between the events of the first movie and the upcoming sequel. Along with Ben Schwartz, who will return to his role as Sonic the Hedgehog as a guest star, the cast includes Adam Pally, Cary Elwes, Edi Patterson, Kid Cudi, Stockard Channing, and Ellie Taylor. Drama: A six-episode limited series on FX, featuring Elisabeth Moss, is available only on Hulu. Today marks the premiere of the first two episodes of Steven Knight's spy thriller, Peaky Blinders, which is set in Istanbul, Paris, and London and centers on a CIA agent collaborating with a French counterpart to avert a possible catastrophe. Josh Charles and Dali Bensalah are joining Moss in the ensemble.
