Highlights: Global Smartphone Market (2023/2024 Updated)

The shipment of 280.2 million smartphones worldwide fell by 14% YoY and 7% QoQ in the first quarter of 2023.

In Q1 2023, Samsung overtook Apple as the leading smartphone manufacturer, thanks to the mid-tier A Series and the recently released S23 series.

Of the top five brands, Apple's YoY shipment decline was the smallest. As a result, it achieved a Q1 share of 21%, which was a record.

Global smartphone sales fell by 7% year over year to $104 billion. Average selling prices rose year over year for Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

In their industry, mobile brand names are up against stiff competition. Let's now talk about the top 10 mobile brands in the world for 2023–2024 that have proven themselves.

According to the most recent data on the global smartphone market share as of April 2023, Apple, a US phone manufacturer, is in the lead with a market share of 30.44%. This indicates that more than 30 percent of smartphone users use an Apple device.

Samsung is ranked second among the most well-known smartphone producers. Just 4.34 percentage points separate the South Korean company from Apple, which has a market share of 26.1% in smartphones.

With a combined market share of 56.54%, Apple and Samsung are the market leaders in the smartphone sector. In fact, since 2013, these two smartphone producers have dominated the industry. Both of their market shares surpassed those of Nokia, a Finnish phone manufacturer that enjoyed tremendous success in the 2000s.

The data also reveals that over the past few months, Apple and Samsung have been trading places. Samsung had maintained its position as the market leader up until September 2021, albeit by a small margin. But in October of that year, Apple passed Samsung, and it held the top spot for a few months before Samsung reclaimed it in March of 2022. Since then, the two have been alternately taking the lead every few months until Apple finally regained it in October 2022.

With 11.72% of the overall market share, Xiaomi is the third-largest smartphone brand. Given that the Chinese company was only established in 2010, this is impressive. The past five years have seen the majority of Xiaomi's growth. The phone manufacturer held only about 2% of the market prior to 2017. However, it increased its share that year by more than doubling it, finishing the year with 4.75%.

Oppo and Vivo, with 6.37% and 5.1% of the market share, are the next two companies after Xiaomi. Huawei, which accounts for 4.12% of the market for smartphones, is the sixth-largest smartphone manufacturer.

These six companies collectively control 83.85% of the global smartphone market. In other words, they produce more than four out of every five smartphones used globally.

Only Apple is headquartered in the United States out of all the top phone manufacturers in the world. The remaining five are in fact from Asia, specifically South Korea and China.
