Tom's Guide has conducted battery tests on smartphone models at 150 nit screen brightness by continuously surfing the web over 5G mobile network (disabled wi-fi connection), then taking the average results.
Normally, an average smartphone will run out of battery after less than 10 hours of continuous web surfing. A smartphone with a battery life of more than 11 hours is considered to have battery of excellent quality.
Top 5 Smartphones With Longest Battery Life in 2023 for Gamers
1. Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro
6000 mAh battery
Battery life: 15 hours 30 minutes
Certainly, you'd expect the ROG Phone 6 Pro to last a long time on a charge. Asus equipped the phone with a 6,000 mAh battery. The RedMagic 6 makes do with a 5,050 mAh cell, while the Moto G Power 2022's power pack is a little bit smaller at 5,000 mAh.
Still, the ROG Phone 6 Pro makes the most of that massive battery, and we think the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset powering the phone deserves a lot of the credit. Chip maker Qualcomm says its new silicon is more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip that preceded it, and the test results with the ROG Phone 6 Pro certainly bear that out.
Just as important as the ROG Phone 6 Pro's long battery life is the fact that it doesn't take that long to charge. Thanks to the phone's 65W wired charging speed, we got a drained ROG Phone 6 back to an 81% charge after half-an-hour.
You may not be interested in a gaming phone like the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. But the device's stellar battery life certainly makes it a phone worth taking notice of.
2. iPhone 14 Pro Max
4323 mAh battery
Battery life: 13 hours 39 minutes
Ranking behind Asus' gaming phone is the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a battery life of 13 hours 39 minutes. Along with the upgraded camera and the Dynamic Island feature, the strong battery life has made it the most ideal high-end iPhone model this year.
The battery life of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 11% longer than that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Notably, the latest iPhone Pro Max has made a "leap" although its 4,323 mAh battery capacity is slightly smaller than the 4,352 mAh battery on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. That shows the impressive efficiency of the A16 Bionic chip.
However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is quite expensive for many people to be able to afford.

3. Moto G Power 2022
5000 mAh battery
Battery life: 13 hours 15 minutes
Photo Phone Arena |
Motorola keeps producing new versions of the Moto G Power, and if the results yield multi-day battery life, then why not? Like its predecessors, the Moto G Power (2022) lasts a long time on our battery test, though it suffers from the same slow charging as other Moto G series phones.
A pokey processor also makes us less enthusiastic about this version of the Moto G Power than we were about its predecessor, the Moto G Power (2021). (That phone was our previous battery champ, but because it's been out for more than 18 months, we've cycled it off this best phone battery life list; you can still find it on sale, usually at a discounted price, if you don't mind its older software.)
Speaking of old software, the Moto G Power (2022) arrived with Android 11, though it should be running Android 12 by now. At least the 2022 edition ships with 64GB in its $199 version, doubling the storage you'd get from the 2021 Moto G Power at that price.

4. OnePlus Nord N300 5G
5000 mAh battery
Battery life: 13 hours 13 minutes
Photo techradar |
Located in the mid-range price segment, the OnePlus Nord N300 has the same battery life as the latest Moto G Power. However, battery life is pretty much the only thing that impressed reviewers with this phone.
We also appreciate the 33W charging speeds that this $228 phone supports. Alas, battery life is about all this phone has going for it, as the cameras and performance underwhelmed in our testing, and OnePlus only promises one software update. If you don't want to spend big bucks on a long-lasting phone, the OnePlus Nord N300 may be an option, but that battery life is about all you're getting in return.
5. Asus Zenfone 9
4300 mAh battery
Battery life: 13 hours 13 minutes
Photo techradar |
Just because the Asus Zenfone 9 is a compact device doesn't mean it can't pack a lot of battery life into its slender frame. The latest Asus flagship lasted more than 13 hours on our batter test with its adaptive refresh rate enabled. That would be impressive enough, but the Zenfone 9 did all that without turning to a beefy battery for help. The 4,300 mAh power pack certainly doesn't skimp on capacity, but compared to the 5,000 mAh cells you'll find on this best phone battery life list, it's clear Asus has worked hard to make sure the Zenfone 9 gets the most out of every charge.
On the charging front, the Zenfone 9 supports 30W speeds, and Asus includes a charger with its phone. That should allow you to top off the phone's battery fairly quickly — not that you'll need to charge this compact phone very often.
What is the future of phone battery life?
In 2023, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (expected to be integrated on high-end smartphones) will use more energy efficiently. Apple's iPhone 15 series is also expected to improve battery life better.
Another phone maker in need of a battery life upgrade is Google. The phone with the best battery life of the company lasted only 8 hours. Therefore, no matter which company uses Tensor silicon chips, it is important to pay attention to power consumption.
In general, 2022 is an impressive year for phone battery life. Experts hope that this trend will continue.
Battery trends predicted to dominate in 2023
Solid-State Battery
Conventional liquid electrolytes have low charge retention, are inefficient in operation at high temperatures, and are extremely flammable. Solid-state batteries, which solve these problems, swap out the flammable liquid electrolyte for a solid substance that promotes ion migration. Startups now utilize electrolytes with strong ionic conductivity, such as polymers and organic chemicals. Solid electrolytes also enable the production of batteries using high-voltage, high-capacity materials. Greater energy density, mobility, and shelf life are made possible by this. Solid-state batteries are the best option for usage in EVs since they have a better power-to-weight ratio.
Improved redox flow battery
Redox flow batteries are employed as rechargeable or fuel cells. Ions move from one tank to the next via a membrane in these devices, which are made up of two connected tanks with electrolyte liquids and electrodes that are each negatively and positively charged. Redox flow batteries have a longer lifespan than lithium batteries because the membrane is not harmed by the current flowing from one tank to another. Furthermore, they provide excellent potential for utility-scale integration of renewable energy because of their adaptable system design and simple scalability. New redox chemistries that are less expensive and have higher energy densities are being developed as a result of advancements in the sector.
Renovated Lithium-Ion Batteries
The benefits of lithium-ion batteries are mobility, quick recharging, little maintenance, and versatility. However, they require overcharge or total discharge protection, are exceedingly combustible, are sensitive to high temperatures, and deteriorate with age. Moreover, mining the materials for battery production has significant environmental consequences. Startups are therefore changing lithium-ion batteries to improve their functionality and lifespan. To do this, the conventional lithium-cobalt electrodes are replaced with lighter and more energy-dense materials including lithium-polymer, lithium-air, lithium-titanate, and lithium-sulfur. Additionally, several startups promote the circular economy by recycling spent batteries. This decreases the manufacture time of the regenerated cathode while improving purity. Battery manufacturers use this technique to recycle batteries without having to sort them beforehand.
Simple ways to save your smartphone's battery life
Turn off background apps
Many applications continue to run in the background long after you think you've closed them. For example, GPS-based services such as a map app like Waze or a game such as Pokémon GO! that track your location place a heavy strain on battery life and can continue running – even after you think you've stopped using them.
Turn off location services
Smartphones have built-in GPS functions, which is great when you want to know how far away you are from a location or if you need directions to the nearest coffee shop. But more often than not, users don't need location services. Turn that off, as it's using your smartphone's antennas to constantly search for your location.
Find and disable apps that use the most power using background activity
Snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, Netflix, and Amazon Shopping also top the list of apps that can suck a battery dry. Also look for any news or weather alert app as a possible power-draining culprit.
Some apps are constantly updating you with information that you may not need.
Turn off anything broadcasting or streaming rich content
This includes any display graphics and animations. The more advanced the graphics are (games, videos, photos, animations), the harder the processor and graphics chip in your smartphone have to work. More activity means more battery use.
Turn off all those notifications
Smartphones natively do their best to conserve power by going to sleep or into a lower power mode, but if you're constantly receiving notifications from Facebook, Twitter, or Super Mario Run, you're keeping your phone awake – and sucking power.
What to do when your phone hits low power modeWhen your phone gets to 10% power or lower, and you're out and about, you might withdraw from using social media to save some juice for an Uber, or you might throw your phone on Airplane mode. Whatever your tactics are, it's an inconvenience but it's better than having no communication whatsoever when your phone dies. You can always toggle the phone back on to make a call or send a message. When you do finally find a outlet or charging station, if you place your phone in airplane mode, it tends to charge faster because it's using fewer antennae and other processes in background. |
