Top 10 Hottest and Handsome Young MLS Players 2023
1. Jesus Ferreira-FC Dallas
In 2022, FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira was named MLS Young Player of the Year after tying the franchise record for goals in a season.
Ferreira, 22, set a new record with 18 goals, sharing it with Jason Kreis (1999) and Kenny Cooper (2008). The 18 goals tied for fourth most in MLS this season, with Hany Mukhtar of Nashville SC leading the league with 23.
2. Jose Cifuentes-LAFC
Jose Cifuentes, 23, was one of the best midfielders in MLS in 2022, despite his team winning the Supporters Shield and the MLS Cup last season. He's been one of the league's top prospects since arriving in Los Angeles from Ecuador in 2020, and he's one of the players most likely to move to Europe.
He may not have made headlines in Los Angeles like Carlos Vela, Gareth Bale, or even Cristian Arango did last year, but he's quickly established himself as a dependable mainstay for the Californian MLS powerhouse and one of the league's standout players.
3. Alan Velasco-FC Dallas
South American arrival last season forward Velasco joined FC Dallas from Argentine club Independiente. He scored six goals and provided 7 assists as they reached the play-offs, and Dallas will be hoping there is much more to come from him in 2023.
4. John Tolkin-NY Red Bulls
Still just 20, Tolkin has been the number one starting left-back for the Red Bulls for the past two seasons, and topped the polls for the best under-21 full back in the world recently.
New York will do well to keep hold of him for the whole of the 2023 campaign, as he is being heavily linked with a move to Europe.
5. Riqui Puig-LA Galaxy
Growing up in Barcelona’s La Masia academy and earning the title the next Xavi proved a tough task for Puig at his hometown club, and, with the emergence of players like Gavi and Pedri, Puig decided it was better to take his chances elsewhere, and chose to move to the MLS.
Still just 23, he will be determined to show Barcelona fans what they have been missing this season.
6. Thiago Almada-Atlanta United
Josef Martinez has left Atlanta United, which is now Thiago Almada's club.
Fans had high expectations for Almada after he arrived at Atlanta United last season for a hefty $16 million investment, and he delivered. Almada was a key contributor in the 2022 season, with six goals and seven assists, but he was powerless to help the team recover from periods of inconsistency.
7. Talles Magno-NYCFC
Yet another South American import, this time from Brazil, striker joined New York in 2021 from Vasco de Gama. He helped them win the MLS Cup in 2021 and Campeones title last season and can play either as a winger or central striker. He has 9 goals and 10 assists in his New York career so far.
8. Jack McGlynn-Philadelphia Union
The midfield academy product was unleashed to great effect in the second half of 2022, scoring a goal and assisting three others while helping to glue together one of the league's more structurally sound midfields. His goal came from a free-kick, which is not surprising given his reputation as a dead-ball specialist.
He's as good off the ball as he is on it, and while he's not a flashy passer, he can deliver decisive passes to advance the ball, disguising his intended target before finding teammates in impossible areas. This year, he should play a significant role for the Union.
9. Cade Cowell-San Jose Earthquakes
Cade Cowell was already well-known to many MLS fans prior to this winter, but he appears to have taken another step forward with a spectacular performance against Serbia in January camp, putting in a spectacular shift in his debut national team appearance.
San Jose has reportedly turned down European offers for Cowell, but he appears set to move soon. For the time being, he is a rising MLS talent with plenty of pace, skill, and power.
10. Facundo Torres-Orlando City
This 21-year-star old's shines brightly after being named to Uruguay's squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was an unused substitute in all three group stage matches as Uruguay exited the tournament earlier than expected, but it's still a prestigious honor worthy of a top young talent.
Torres was chosen to represent his country in the game's showcase tournament for a reason. With nine goals and eight assists in his first season with Orlando City SC, the 22-year-old will be looking to improve not only his own fortunes, but also those of his club, after narrowly missing out on the playoffs in 2022 due to a late-season sputter.
