The Renault Kiger has been revealed. The sub-four meter SUV will be launched in March.

Renault Kiger Overview

Renault Kiger is the French car manufacturer’s key to the popular compact B-SUV segment of India. The Kiger will be a global product for Renault and will debut in India next month followed by other international markets. As for the production, the Kiger will be built alongside its cousin Magnite at the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai.

Price and Launch Date of Renault Kiger

The big question then is when the Kiger will be launched and what will be the price of the Kiger. Let’s begin with the first question. The Renault Kiger will be launched in the first week of March 2021. There is little to doubt that Renault will offer the Kiger in a plethora of variants. The entry level models featuring the naturally aspirated engines will feature a price of around Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The top of the line RXZ trim powered by the turbo petrol engine will be offered at around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), according to India Today.

According to sources, the Renault Kiger will come with two engine options: 1.0L three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine. Both engine options will come with a 5-speed manual transmission option with some form of automatic transmission as well.

Renault will also have to provide something unique and value for money to attract customers. New launches like the Kia Sonet and Toyota Urban Cruiser have raised the stakes high in the compact-SUV segment.

The engine churns out 72bhp and 96Nm of torque. The naturally aspirated engine is available with either a five-speed manual or the EASY-R five-speed robotised gearbox AMT.

Exterior Design and Concept

Renault has already claimed that the Kiger production-spec will share 80% of its design elements with the Kiger Concept. This is a good thing because it is very rare that the concept version of a car is that close to the production version. Renault Kiger will share its platform and engine with the Nissan Magnite.

The Kiger will be a sub-compact SUV, which means it will fall under 4 meters, so that it can take advantage of the lower taxes. Just like the Magnite, the Kiger will also have the benefit of high localization production. This and the shared underpinning will help in keeping the costs down as compared to the competition. Both the SUVs get the CMF-A+ platform.

Which one is safer?

Both the SUVs get two front airbags, ABS, EBD, reverse parking sensors, and three-point seatbelt as standard. However, the Kiger's top-end model gets four airbags and reverse parking camera while Magnite's higher variants get VDC (vehicle dynamics control), hill start assist, traction control, and reverse parking camera with 360-degree view and bird's eye view, according to Timesnownews.

Now, it is a little hard to comment on which of the two SUVs is safer as none of them has been tested by Global NCAP as yet. And as one can see, they both have some additional safety previsions on the top-end trim as compared to the other.

Which one has more features?

This is where both the SUVs are quite evenly matched. They both get an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument panel with a seven-inch TFT multi-information display (MID), automatic AC, ambient lighting, steering mounted controls, cruise control, push-button stop/start, wireless smartphone charger, and ambient lighting. However, the Kiger gets PM 2.5 cabin air filter and three driving modes while Magnite misses out on air filter and gets only two driving modes. Also, the Kiger gets Arkamys sound system while Magite has a JBL music system.
