Price: $114,500

Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SV) division creates a number of different vehicles, including high-end luxury (SV Autobiography), extreme off-roading (SVX), and race-inspired performance (SVR). The Land Rover Range Sport Sport SVR boasts a potent engine and dynamic chassis setup.

Under the hood, the SVR sports a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that makes 575 horsepower. That power is sent through the full-time four-wheel drive, allowing it to launch from a standstill, and will do zero to 60 in 4.3 seconds. The SVR stands out with unique 21-inch wheels and an exposed gloss black carbon fiber hood.

9. Mercedes-AMG G 63

Price: $157,445

The G-Class, a symbol of Mercedes' off-road prowess since 1979, has undergone a complete redesign for 2019. The potent G 63 version now produces 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque from its robust new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, and it also receives an improved suspension. Inside the cabin, the G-Class is every bit as luxurious as you'd expect, with massaging seats, as well as dual 12.3-inch displays that merge into one cohesive unit on the dashboard.

Along with its extra power, the G63 has AMG-specific suspension tuning. Ride comfort is vastly improved versus older G-wagens, but given this SUV's towering height and off-road mission, you shouldn't expect much in the way of handling ability. And there's still quite a bit of wind noise at highway speeds, Caranddriver noted.

Price: $163,250

Mercedes-Benz has updated the range-topping GLS - Class for 2020. As is customary with German cars rolling out in the U.S., the performance variant arrives for the following model year. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is arriving for summer of 2020, and will most certainly carry a price tag above the current 2019 GLS 63’s price of $126,000.

This large, lavish 3-row SUV bears a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, making 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. It can rocket from zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 174 mph. The GLS also features a world-class cabin that’s loaded with the latest in-car technology, Cars Usnews noted.

7. Maserati Levante Trofeo

Price: $171,475

The moment you see it on the road, you know it’s a Maserati. It’s got the prominent grille and bold front styling featured in so many of Maserati’s finest vehicles. Rounded haunches, a triple vent, a quad exhaust system: This car truly brings modern innovations to a gorgeously styled vehicle.

All throughout the inside of the cabin, the high-end accents that make a Maserati can be seen. Highly polished wood; silk and soft leather; a resonant sound system. This car performs well, feels good, and is beautiful simply to look at!

However, it also features impressive stats. The Maserati Levante Trofeo has a top speed of 188 mph / 300 kph; it can accelerate from 0-60 mph / 0-100 kph in 3.2 seconds.

6. Aston Martin DBX

Price: $192,986

Aston Martin is a century-old luxury British mark within the auto manufacturing world. The DBX is its very first SUV – and one that could signal a new focus for the classic brand. After all, the SUV market is one of the most quickly-growing in modern vehicles – it’ll be very exciting to see where the DBX leads Aston Martin in the future.

The long-awaited Aston Martin DBX is almost here, and it will be one of the most expensive SUVs on the market when it lands in the second half of 2020. And for good reason, considering Aston Martin's focus on handcrafting. Each DBX interior will require more than 200 hours of hand-finishing, and there's plenty of ways to customize yours. Opt for an 80-percent wool blend covering on the seats, along with bronze mesh, a flax composite—or carbon-fiber trim instead of wood. Under the hood, you'll find a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 542 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

5. Mercedes-Maybach GLS

Price: Around $200,000

One of the points of an SUV is to offer you the size you need in a utility vehicle; for example, you might need something rugged and ready to adventure, in a petite size. If so, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is a good choice.

On the other end of the scale? The gargantuan, gorgeous Mercedes-Benz GLS Maybach. It’s huge – and it’s here to impress. From the outside, it’s also instantly recognizable as a Mercedes. Chrome side air intakes grace the flanks; durable underbody protection emphasizes this car’s ultimate practical nature.

You can fit two or three benches in the back; there are fold-out tables to make entertaining, eating, and even working easier, if you so choose. (However, there are also branded champagne flutes included with each vehicle, so we’d lean towards entertaining if forced to choose.)

An equally large twin-turbo engine provides competitive acceleration: 0-60 mph (or 0-100 kph) in 4.9 seconds. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS can attain a top speed of 155 mph, or 249 kilometers per hour.

4. Range Rover SVAutobiography LWB (557 HP)

Price: $210,795

Who knew a Range Rover could get this expensive? The long-wheelbase Range Rover SVAutobiography with the 557-hp V-8 engine joins a small group of high-priced SUVs above $200,000. Some of its best features include 24-way heated and cooled Hot-Stone Massage seats, a 29-speaker Meridian sound system, deployable tables with a leather finish, and a refrigerator in the rear.

The petrol V8, fitted in both standard and long-wheelbase forms, has been returned to match the Range Rover Sport SVR's outputs. Its power figure rises by 40bhp and the torque figure by 41lb-ft over the standard supercharged V8 petrol used in lesser Ranger Rovers, to a substantial 543bhp and 502lb-ft of torque.

The most obvious change compared with the standard Range Rover is the SVA’s dual rear seats and substantial center console arrangement. The console stores a pair of fold-out aluminum tray tables and has a refrigerated locker that can take two tall glasses and a small bottle, Autocars noted.

3. Lamborghini Urus

Price: $211,321

The ‘S’ in SUV stands for sport, giving modern SUV’s the challenge of integrating practical features and adventurous range into one multipurpose vehicle. Lamborghini decided to look to its past to deliver on this modern car: Decades ago, the historic brand debuted a made-for-military SUV, the Lamborghini LM002.

Today, with extremely reminiscent styling, the Lamborghini Urus brings similar spirit with modern tech features and blazing power. The Urus has a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 powering it, giving it enough energy to accelerate from 0-60 mph / 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds.

The massive wheel arches help this car navigate off-road very capably; the interior of this Lamborghini makes it feel like the high-end car it is. The cabin is full of inlaid wood, Alcantara, full-grain leather, and other gorgeous, luxury options. The Lamborghini Urus can attain a top speed of 190 mph, or 305 kilometres per hour.

2. Bentley Bentayga Speed

Price: $242,125

Bentley offers a wide range of Bentayga SUVs, from the regular V-8 model to a hybrid version, and finally, the mighty Bentayga Speed. This version boasts a V-12 engine making 626 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque—enough for the SUV to reach a top speed of 190 mph. Pretty much whatever you want is yours. It'll set you back close to $250,000, but Bentley's Mulliner department allows buyers to customize their Bentayga to their exact personal tastes.

With the carry-over mechanicals, the Speed's engine output and performance figures are unchanged, but still monumentally impressive. The twin-turbo 6.0-liter W-12 produces 626 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, figures that are good enough to shove the Speed from zero to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 190 mph. Bentley claimed the fastest production SUV title with the current Bentayga Speed, and provided no competitor throws down a Connolly hide gauntlet, that bragging right shouldn't change for the new one, according to Motortrend.

Price: $332,350

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan takes the cake when it comes to the most expensive SUVs you can buy today. In back, you can enjoy a drinks cabinet with a refrigerator, champagne flutes, and Rolls-Royce whisky glasses, and a decanter.

Lambswool floor mats make the interior even more comfortable. Like some other high-priced SUVs, you can commission the Cullinan to your exact preferences, from personalized treadplates to headrest embroidery and much more. This SUV's V-12 engine makes 563 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, and believe it or not, it's well equipped to handle off-road driving. Just make sure you to take your shoes off before you get back inside.

The Cullinan boasts soft-close doors, power-adjustable headrests, a power liftgate, completely bespoke wheels, and comes with the opportunity to custom-fit the cabin to the driver’s precise specifications. It can be outfitted in any colour, the trim can be your choice, and no expense has been spared in making passenger comfort out of this world. It deserves a place on our list of the most expensive cars of the year too!
