What is Voter ID cards - e-EPIC?

On the occasion of 11th National Voters' Day (NVD), Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will on Monday launch electronic version of the voter identity card, termed launch the e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme, which can be downloaded on mobile phone or personal computer.

The e-elector photo identity card is non-editable digital version of the elector photo identity card and it can be saved in facilities such as digital locker and can be printed in the PDF format, Election Commission officials said.

The e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC. In this, the people will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc. Now, the voters will be able to download the e-EPIC on their mobile phones or a computer and can store it digitally.

The digitalisation of voter-ID card will have a special significance in the upcoming polls in five states, namely, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

e-EPIC is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC and will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc.

The e-EPIC initiative would be launched in two phases. In the first phase from January 25 to 31, all new voters who have applied for the voter-ID card and registered their mobile numbers in Form-6 will be able to download the e-EPIC by simply authenticating their mobile number. The second phase will start from February 1. It will be open for the general voters.

The e-elector photo identity card is a non-editable digital version of the elector photo identity card and it can be saved in facilities such as a digital locker and can be printed in PDF format. This is in addition to PCV EPIC being issued for fresh registration, the EC said.

E-EPIC can be downloaded on a mobile or a computer and can be digitally stored. This is in addition to physical IDs being issued for fresh registration.

3 simple steps to download Ids Card or e-EPIC

Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to log on to https://voterportal.eci.gov.in/

Step 2: Now, click on the option of download E-EPIC.

Step 3: The download process began from 11.14 am onwards from Monday.

*Note: In case a voter has lost EPIC, you can search name in an electoral roll from voterportal.eci.gov.in or electoralsearch.in, note the EPIC number and then download e-EPIC.

Here are more details of the steps to download e-EPIC from the voter portal:

Step 1: Log in https://voterportal.eci.gov.in. From the menu, click on 'Download e-EPIC'

Step 2: Enter the EPIC number or Form Reference Number

Step 3: Verify with OTP sent on registered mobile number (if the mobile number is registered with Eroll)

Step 4: Click on 'Download e-EPIC'

Step 5: If the mobile number is not registered in Eroll, click on e-KYC to complete the KYC

Step 6: Pass the 'Face liveness' verification

Step 7: Update the mobile number to complete KYC. Download e-EPIC

Non-registered mobile number, how to download?

1. If Mobile number not registered in Eroll, click on e-KYC to complete the KYC.

2. Pass the Face liveness verification.

3. Update your mobile number to complete KYC.

4. Download e-EPIC.
