Smash-hit television series Money Heist (or La Casa De Papel in Spain) blew up on the international stage after being picked up by Netflix in 2017. Few people realise that the first two seasons, while popular, failed to deliver viewership numbers domestically. So much so that the series, created by Spanish television channel Antena 3, was effectively binned. Shelved. No more.

Ever since the release of Money Heist season 4, which dropped on Netflix April 3rd, we’ve been asking the question – will there ever be a Money Heist season 5, Bosshunting wondered?

‘Money Heist’ Season 5: Netflix Release Date

According to What’s On Netflix, the fifth season has been filmed. It’s now going through post-production. This was reported in February 2021, and it can take a few months to get through the post-production work. Remember that all episodes need to be ready so you get your binge-watch.

The good news is with the post-production work happening, we could get Money Heist season 5 in 2021. I suspect it will be sometime in the late spring or early summer at the earliest. Stay tuned for more details about Money Heist season 5, including a release date, Netflixlife cited.

‘Money Heist’ Season 5 Cast

Most of the main heist members are expected to be back for season five of the Spanish drama. This is epxetced to include Tokyo (played by Úrsula Corberó), Professor (Álvaro Morte), Lisbon (Itziar Ituño), Rio (Miguel Herrán), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Stockholm (Esther Acebo), Palermo (Rodrigo De la Serna), Helsinki (Darko Peric), Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian) and Marsella (Luka Peros).

As well as this, characters like Arturo (Enrique Arce), Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), Manila (Belen Cuesta) and Gandia (Jose Manuel Poga) are all expected to return after their storylines ended on slight cliffhangers.

There has been no confirmation yet about whether Berlin (Pedro Alonso) will also return in flashbacks again in the new season but it’s likely he will be. One character who won’t be returning, however, is Nairobi (Alba Flores) who was killed off in season four. Some of the stars have already been confirming their return on Instagram with new images.

There are also some new cast members joining the show in unconfirmed roles - Sense8 star Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado. Netflix has also released the first images of Criado with Berlin, which seem to suggest he might be part of the gang, Express listed.

‘Money Heist’ Season 5 Plot

Like every season of Money Heist, season five will catch up with the professor and the gang doing what they do best: armed robbery of the highest degree, with a smattering of political resistance thrown in.

There are a number of loose threads left dangling at the end of season four that future episodes could explore. Lisbon is now inside the bank, but with the professor cornered by Inspectora Alicia Sierra, Lisbon and the others have no way to escape. They'll have to continue melting gold at top speed, and hope that Sergio can find a way to outsmart Sierra once and for all.

And is Álvaro Morte hinting there could be problems ahead for his character? "The professor is very intelligent in some aspects, but not in all of them. I believe he has great planning skill, and also in terms of strategy, but – for example – I think he's one of the clumsiest guys on earth when it comes to emotional intelligence.", Digitalspy reported.

‘Money Heist’ Season 5 Episodes

Season 5, as confirmed by FormulaTV will be 2 episodes longer than previous seasons with a total of 10 episodes to wrap up the series. That’s confirmed via the Netflix Media Center.

Is there a trailer for Money Heist season 5?

No, there is no trailer yet for season five of Money Heist as the series is only just about to begin filming. The trailer for season five launched just a few weeks before the show landed on Netflix.

Therefore, it seems like viewers might be waiting a while to see new footage from the show. As soon as a trailer is released for season five, Express.co.uk will update this article.

Although Money Heist may be coming to an end, it has been confirmed there will be a Korean remake of the hit show.
