Falcon and Winter Soldier Season 2: Release Date, Cast and Plot

It looks like Marvel plans on having The Falcon and Winter Soldier season 2 — but by a different name. So, if you've watched the Falcon and Winter Soldier finale, then we assume you're ready to sound the Spoiler Warning horn with us, and dive into what we know about the next adventures of Sam and Bucky, as another round of the Disney Plus series doesn't seem out of the cards.
Season one saw Sebastian Stan back as Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier, who he's played since the first Captain America movie. He's been through hell and back, becoming a super soldier assassin and then getting un-brainwashed in Wakanda. Now, after (reluctantly) teaming up with Sam Wilson, aka Falcon (who we first met in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), to chase down the insurgent group Flag Smashers and fight the now-former Captain America John Walker, the two are a united pair.
The best news for people wanting Falcon & Winter Solider season 2 comes from Disney's submission of the show for Emmy consideration. Disney filed it as a Drama Series, which leaves the door open for season 2 — unlike how WandaVision was filed as a Limited Series, which makes it likely a one-and-done show.
Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Release Date
If The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 were to happen, then when would it release? Marvel has a packed roster of upcoming shows across 2021-22, so it would depend on when there's room in the production schedule. With the first wave of shows either filming or beginning production in 2021, it seems more likely that Falcon & Winter Soldier wouldn't begin shooting until late-2021 or probably early-2022, as cited by ScreenRant.
It's difficult to get a full gauge on how long production would take on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 since the first was so heavily disrupted by COVID-19, but a few months filming and then post-production seems a safe bet, meaning The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 could have an early-2023 release date, perhaps in a similar slot to season 1.

While Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 6 could kill off anyone, we're betting that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Stan) will be sticking around. And now that we have solved the mystery of the Power Broker — it's Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) — we wonder how long it will take for Sam and Bucky to find out. A prospective second season could revolve around stopping her in Madripoor and Washington.
Of course, USAgent John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) are also likely going to continue past Falcon and Winter Solider's first season. As for Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl)? He could break free from his Wakandan imprisonment, but that's in the air, reported Tom's Guide.
Falcon & The Winter Soldier Season 2 Story Details
While the Flag-Smashers are defeated, there is plenty of setup for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2's story in the season 1 finale. The biggest hint of this comes in episode 6's post-credits scene, which sees Sharon Carter being granted a pardon and given a job back with the government, only to reveal in a phone call she plans on taking them down from the inside. It's not revealed who she's speaking to, but the implication is either Zemo or, more likely, Valentina.
This could well setup either the Thunderbolts or the Dark Avengers for the MCU's future, which could be the central threat that Sam and Bucky have to deal with in Falcon & Winter Soldier season 2. Leading the way with that is John Walker, who has now adopted his US Agent person from the comics; while it steered away from the outright villainous turn it setup, his different methods could bring him into conflict with Sam and Bucky once again.
Will Falcon & Winter Soldier Season 2 Be Titled Captain America & The Winter Soldier? The end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's finale reveals a new title for the show: Captain America and the Winter Soldier. This reflects that Sam Wilson has truly become Captain America, an identity he confirms within the episode itself, while Bucky is - despite his healing - still referred to as the Winter Soldier. Since Sam is now Cap, then having The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 be called that would no longer make sense, so logically then it would be using the new title. |
