Right before he is set to head off to America, Gi-hun selects to stay in Korea which hopes of closing down the Game once and for all.
Korean drama series Squid Game season 1 was a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish. And the ride might not be over just yet, because the Squid Game finale seemed to tease Squid Game Season 2 could be in the works.
The open ending of the show also has the Internet reverberating about a possible sequel or we can say renewal for the series.
Here are all the details and theories about Squid Game Season 2 to get you hype for more.
Squid Game Season 2: Top 5 Plot theories
Fans of the series have a lot to theorize about as they await any news about a potential Season 2. There are a lot of different directions a Squid Game second season could take:
1.While Seung Gi-hun triumphed during the first games, it seems the horror isn’t over yet.
He discovers the challenges are still continuing with a different team, so there’s plenty of scope for Gi-hun to become the ultimate hero and stop them all. One thing’s for certain: this edition of the game wasn’t the first and doesn’t seem to be the last, so the series could really go in any direction, in a similar vein to the Saw franchise.
Perhaps Gi-hun will re-enter the game as a contestant and use his insider knowledge to take it down from within, or maybe he will become a masked VIP, since he is obviously wealthy enough to buy his way into VIP status now.
2.One exciting theory is that the new season could explore an entirely new location. This stems from a small, throwaway line one of the VIPs utters in the finale. The masked man notes that the Korean games are his favorite, which suggests there are other Squid Games in different countries.
3.It's also possible we'll find out whether Hwang Jun-ho survives after he was apparently shot by his brother. The police officer infiltrated the games in order to find his sibling, but in a wild twist, it turned out his brother was in fact the game's manager, known as The Front Man.
4.At the end of the series, he dials a number given to another person who had been lured by a recruiter to enter the game - perhaps the second season will reveal exactly who is on the other end of that call.
5.Player 199 in Squid Game is one of the best, but is Abdul Ali alive following the games, and is there any chance for him to return in Squid Game season 2?
While Squid Game cutting away from Ali's death may have led to fans hoping he was still alive, the shot of him in a casket should be seen as confirmation that he died. The only explanation for Ali still being alive after this that Squid Game could provide would require major retcons. Without the shot of him in the casket, there was the chance that Ali survived somehow. Squid Game already pulled a fake-out death with player 001/Oh Il-nam, so Ali's presumed death also could've been reversed if the show left his fate somewhat ambiguous.

Squid Game Season 2: Cast
Given all the carnage inherent in Squid Game, it’s safe to say a second season would have to introduce a whole new cast of characters.
The only actors likely to reprise their roles are Lee Jung-jae as sole survivor Gi-hun and Lee Byung-hun as the still-enigmatic Front Man, who may actually be running the Squid Game himself now that Il-nam is dead. It’s probably no spoiler to reveal the majority of the Squid Game cast who played the 456 in season one won’t be returning for season two.

To accomplish putting an end to the terrifying tournament, he’ll have to go up against Player 001’s sidekick The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who will likely take over as the leader of the complicated operation.
Another face we might see is Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), the police officer who sneaked into the bunker and successfully pretended to be a pink-suited security worker. His mission comes to end when The Front Man, who turns out to be his long-lost brother In-ho, shoots him. Jun-ho then falls off a cliff into the ocean, though his body is never shown, leaving viewers to believe he could have survived the gunshot and tumble.
When will release Squid Game Season 2?
The popular and hit K-drama has swept the world since its release on Friday, 17th September 2021, growing up to the top of the streamer’s Top 10 in at least around 66 countries.
Although Squid Game season two hasn’t actually been confirmed yet, its outstanding success points to the fact it probably will be soon.
The series “Squid Game” was first declared in the year 2019 with production taking two years to complete.
If Squid Game is renewed for a second season, we likely won't see it hit screens for 12 months given it would require scripting, recasting and filming.
So even along with the positive timeline the 2nd season most probably would not arrive till early 2023.
However even if Netflix – and the rest of the world – are keen for a second round of perilous playground games, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is less enthused.
“I don’t have well-developed plans for Squid Game 2,” he told Variety. “It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”
