Caitlyn Jenner’s Background
Caitlyn Jenner, original name William Bruce Jenner, (born October 28, 1949, Mount Kisco, New York, U.S.), American decathlete who won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with a then record score of 8,618 points and in 2015 became by far the most prominent athlete to publicly come out as transgender.
Bruce Jenner began an athletic career at Newton (Connecticut) High School, where Jenner lettered in gridiron football, basketball, and athletics and independently took up waterskiing, becoming East Coast all-over champion in 1966, 1969, and 1971. Jenner entered Graceland College (Lamoni, Iowa) in 1969 on a football scholarship, but a knee injury restricted Jenner to basketball and track. After first participating in the decathlon in 1971, Jenner finished 10th in the event at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany. Then Jenner moved to California to train with individual-event stars rather than with other decathlon athletes.
After the 1976 Olympic triumph, Jenner became active as a network television sports commentator and made television commercials, lectured, and published several books. In 1991 Jenner married Kris Kardashian, and the gold medalist later gained a new type of fame by becoming one of the central figures in the popular reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2007– ), which followed the exploits of the couple’s family.
Caitlyn Jenner’s Transgender Progress
In April 2015 Jenner announced that she identified as a woman, and two months later she revealed that she wanted to be referred to as Caitlyn Jenner. I Am Cait, a reality series documenting her transition, debuted in July; it ran for two seasons. Jenner’s public shift from a male gender identity to a female one became a cultural touchstone. Her efforts to raise the visibility of transgender people were both widely praised and heavily scrutinized. The memoir The Secrets of My Life was published in 2017.
Caitlyn Jenner on Relationship with the Kardashians
Kim and Khloe Kardashian opened up about their family's relationship with Caitlyn Jenner in a clip from the latest episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim tells both her sister and Scott Disick that Caitlyn's rumored girlfriend, Sophia Hutchins, is trying to get her and Kris Jenner in touch to discuss business.
Kris and Caitlyn tied the knot in 1991. They called it quits in 2015, the same year that Caitlyn transitioned. The pair shares two daughters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
"Mom's the one to get advice from, for sure, but I don't know where Mom's headspace is at," Khloe says of Kris, before Scott inquires about the state of everybody's relationship with Caitlyn and Sophia.
"I talk to Caitlyn every once in a while," Kim says. "Definitely super supportive and checks in and stuff like that, but I'm just so busy."
"I talk to Sophia very seldomly and Cait's probably every blue moon," Khloe agrees. "But it's just 'cause we're busy, it's COVID, there's no beef."
When it comes to their mom, though, Khole notes that she's not sure if Kris wants to open that door again.
In a confessional, Kim agrees that her mom "has definitely had her fair share of hurt in this relationship with Caitlyn," adding that Kris "has a hard time getting over things, and it's completely understandable."
"I don't have any idea where Mom's headspace is with Caitlyn or herself or Sophia, I don't," Khloe says in the confessional. "So I don't know. I don't know if she's even ready for that conversation."
Caitlyn Jenner Decides to Run For California Governor
In an announcement titled “I’m In!” on her campaign website, Jenner said, “California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality. But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.” |
Former Olympic decathlete and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner has filed her initial paperwork to run for governor of California and will officially announce her bid later today, her campaign tells Axios.
Jenner, a longtime Republican, is seeking to replace Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recall election, hoping her celebrity status and name recognition can yield an upset in the nation's most populous state.
But in deep-blue California, she's decidedly not branding herself as a Trump Republican even as she's counting on some of the former president's advisers to drive her strategy.
She's assembled a team of prominent GOP operatives including Tony Fabrizio, the top pollster on Donald Trump's 2016 and 2020 campaigns, Ryan Erwin, founder of RedRock Strategies, and Tyler Deaton, president of Allegiance Strategies.
She's also hired Steven Cheung, a former Trump White House and campaign communications hand who worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger's successful 2003 recall campaign.
Trump's former campaign manager Brad Parscale, a personal friend of Jenner’s, has helped her assemble her team but doesn’t plan to take an official title on the campaign.
The campaign's website and WinRed donation page are set to go live today.
Jenner said in a statement that "Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision" and that "for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people."
The statement decries California's taxes as "too high" and criticizes an "over-restrictive lockdown" response to the COVID pandemic including on in-person schooling.
"This is Gavin Newsom’s California, where he orders us to stay home but goes out to dinner with his lobbyist friends."
