Another winter crime drama is "Monsieur Spade," starring Clive Owen as retired detective Sam Spade. In Dashiell Hammett's 1930 novel "The Maltese Falcon," the investigator, Spade, is called back after six nuns are brutally murdered at a convent in the South of France.
Monsieur Spade is based on the villainous protagonist of Dashiell Hammett's 1930 novel The Maltese Falcon. Owen plays detective Sam Spade, who retires in 1963 in southern France. Spade's life in Bozouls is more tranquil than his previous life as a private investigator in San Francisco. Rumor has it that when his former opponent returns, everything will change. Six cherished nuns were brutally murdered in a nearby convent. As the town mourns, new leads and secrets emerge. Spade discovers during his investigation that the murders are linked to a mysterious child with extraordinary abilities.
A rising director is among the ensemble cast of Monsieur Spade, which was shot in France. Teresa is played by Cara Bossom from Radioactive, and the Chief of Police is played by Denis Ménochet from Inglourious Basterds. Patrice Michaud plays Marguerite Devereaux, Louise Bourgoin (The Romanoffs) plays Gabrielle, Stanley Weber (Outlander) plays Jean-Pierre Devereaux, Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game) plays George Fitzsimmons, Jonathan Zaccaè (Robin Hood) plays Philippe Saint-Andre, and Rebecca Root (The Queen's Gambit) plays Cynthia. Virginia Dell is played by Alfre Woodard (Salem's Lot, The Book of Clarence), and Father Matthew is played by Dean Winters (Lost Girls, John Wick). Both actors appear as extras.
Emmy® Award winners Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit, Logan, Minority Report) and Tom Fontana (City on a Hill, Borgia, Oz) co-created, wrote, and executive produced Monsieur Spade. Frank is yet another showrunner. Barry Levinson, Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Clive Owen, Caroline Benjo, Barbara Letellier, Simon Arnal, Carole Scotta, Carlo Martinelli, and David Helpern serve as executive producers. The series was produced by Black Bear and the Dashiell Hammett Estate, with Haut et Court TV (The Returned, No Man's Land) co-producing and Canal+ and France producing locally. Black Bear is the series' producer. A subsidiary, FilmNation Entertainment (I Know This Much Is True), distributes internationally.
The Claremont Murders Season 8 (Acorn TV Exclusive Series) – New Season on January 29
Australian crime drama in two parts, inspired by actual late 1990s killings. The largest unresolved murder case in Western Australian history began with the disappearance of three young women from Claremont; it would take another 25 years to find a solution.
Ryan Johnson (Doctor Doctor) plays Detective Steve Kirby in The Claremont Murders Season 8.
