What exactly is sexual health?

Sexual health is the state of being physically, mentally, and socially healthy when it comes to sexuality. But sexual health isn't just about having a partner. Our sexual health affects our health, our education, and how we act sexually. The event also talks about issues like unplanned pregnancies and safer ways to have sex.

A respectful view of sexuality is an important part of being sexually healthy. On World Sexual Health Day, people talk a lot about sexual rights as well as sexual health.

When is World Sexual Health Day?

On September 4, World Sexual Health Day, people will think more about their sexual health. The Day is run by the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) and promotes sexual rights and celebrates sexuality.

Meaning of World Sexual Health Day

Every year, WSHD has a different theme. "Let's talk about it" was the theme of the first World Sexual Health Day. The goal was to start breaking down sexuality-related fears and taboos. Relationships that are good are the theme for 2024.

Sexuality is a big part of who we are and how we live our lives. Even so, sexuality and sexual health are often seen as taboo topics. World Sexual Health Day tries to change this by getting teens, adults, teachers, sexual health professionals, nonprofits, and government policymakers to talk about sex, sexuality, and sexual health in an honest way.

Parents, teachers, guardians, and pediatricians are also encouraged to teach kids and teens about sex in a way that is age-appropriate and based on science. Comprehensive sexuality education can help teens and, eventually, adults be more sex-positive, which means they believe that all sex is good as long as it's between consenting adults and doesn't hurt their health. Safety in sex is also a big part of sex education, which is good for your sexual health. It also helps make sure that consent is a part of all sexual encounters.

Sexual Rights as Human Rights

One of WSHD's main goals is to help people all over the world understand that sexual rights are basic human rights that are necessary for people to be healthy and happy. People should have a positive view of sexuality on this day, one that respects everyone's sexual identity, no matter where they see themselves on the spectrum of human sexuality. The spectrum is a scale that doesn't have two ends. It goes beyond traditional gender roles and suggests that sexuality is a fluid idea that can change in space and time.

How to Celebrate World Sexual Health Day

“Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence"

FROM THE WAS DECLARATION OF SEXUAL RIGHTS

Schools, hospitals, public squares, and universities have all taken part in the day over the years. People of all walks of life, from theater groups and NGOs to politicians, celebrities, and regular people, all celebrate. A writing contest and a conference at Stanford University happen every year in North America.

Find out more about why sexual health is important. You can go to a conference or listen to a podcast about sexual health. Talk to WAS about translating their statement of sexual rights if you speak a language other than English.

When your kids are old enough, talk to them about how important it is to have safe sex. You can also talk to them about how staying away from sexual risk can help them do well in life. Share information about how to avoid getting sexually transmitted diseases and getting pregnant without planning to.

Make sure to use #WorldSexualHealthDay when you post on social media.

How to Celebrate World Sexual Health Day
Businesses, schools, and government offices are all open on World Sexual Health Day, which is not a holiday. Sexual health educators and groups hold workshops, conferences, and outreach drives to make people aware of how important sexual health is for living a happy and fulfilling life.

History of World Sexual Health Day

It is World Sexual Health Day, which is promoted by the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS). The first event was held in 2010. Over the years, different slogans have been used to promote the event. For instance, "Let's talk about it!" was the slogan of the first event to honor the day.

Rosemary Coats, who was president of Australia in 2010, came up with the idea for the project. Since its start, the day has spread around the world and is now celebrated in 60 countries.

The World Association for Sexual Health (WAS)

The World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) has been the most important global organization for sexual health and rights since 1978. There are thousands of experienced and aspiring sexologists from a wide range of fields who are members of our organization. WAS has been promoting sexual health through education, health promotion, and networking for over 30 years. Every two years, congresses are held in different parts of the world. In the past few years, WAS members have also started to push for changes in public policy that recognize sexual health and rights as important parts of social justice and overall health. People, foundations, businesses, and governments around the world have given money to keep this work going.

WAS works to make sure everyone has good sexual health. Sexual health is a goal for everyone, not just doctors and nurses. The goal of many fields is the same. Sexuality education is meant to help people grow as people and live sexually healthy lives at all stages of their lives.
