Ronald Dion DeSantis, also known as Ron DeSantis, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on December 14, 1978.
He is an American lawyer, military commander, and politician who has been Florida's 46th governor since 2019. He was a Republican who formerly served in the US House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018 as the representative for Florida's 6th congressional district.

Ron DeSantis: Early Life and Education
Ronald DeSantis and Karen (Rogers) DeSantis are the parents of Ronald Dion DeSantis. His family first relocated to Dunedin, Florida, when he was six years old, then to Orlando, Florida. He played on the Dunedin National Little League team that advanced from the regular season to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in 1991.
DeSantis attended Yale University after graduating with honors from Dunedin High School in Dunedin, Florida, in 1997. While there, he captained the varsity baseball team and graduated with honors. Following Yale, he accepted a position in the Upper School history department at Darlington School.
He graduated with his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005. He obtained a JAG officer commission in the US Navy while a student at Harvard.

In 2010, Ron married to Casey DeSantis, an Emmy Award-winning television host. They lived in Ponte Vedra Beach, near St. Augustine until Ponte Vedra Beach was drawn into the neighboring 4th district.
DeSantis and his wife then moved to Palm Coast, north of Daytona Beach.
Today, they are the parents of three children.
They first welcomed Madison in 2016, Mason in 2018, and finally Mamie in 2020.
The DeSantis children are often seen alongside their father as he campaigns for office. Madison loves swimming, while Mason enjoys t-ball and golf.
When she left the media business, Casey held positions as a host for the Golf Channel's On The Tee and PGA Tour Today as well as a local anchor for WJXT in Jacksonville.
She met Ron during this period, and they started dating.
In 2018, she stated to First Coast News, "We met at the University of North Florida at the driving range off Kernan."

2012 election
DeSantis declared his intention to compete in the Republican primary for the 6th District in 2012. The district was last represented by Republican John Mica for 10 terms in the 7th. Mica chose to run in the new 7th District even though the majority of his former territory fell under the new 6th because a portion of Orlando had been moved into that district.
DeSantis received 39% of the vote in the six-candidate Republican primary, while state legislator Fred Costello came in second with 23%.
DeSantis defeated Democratic rival Heather Beaven by a margin of 57–43% in the general election of November, winning in each of the four counties.

DeSantis declared his campaign for governor of Florida in January 2018 to succeed Republican incumbent Rick Scott, who had a term limit. In December 2017, President Donald Trump declared that if DeSantis decided to run for governor, he would have his backing. DeSantis won the Republican primary on August 28, 2018. Andrew Gillum was his Democratic opponent in the general election. On September 10, 2018, he announced his resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives in order to concentrate on his gubernatorial campaign.
On January 8, 2019, at midnight, DeSantis prefiled the oath of office with the Florida Secretary of State and was sworn in as governor.

In 2018, he told the Sun Sentinel he "doesn't want any discrimination in Florida, I want people to be able to live their life, whether you're gay or whether you're religious." In January 2019, less than a week after taking office, DeSantis issued a nondiscrimination order for state employees reiterating former governor Scott's order; while the order included race, age, sex, color, religion, national origin, marital status and disability, it included no protections for sexual orientation or gender identity.
