Assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico
Following a cabinet meeting, a shooting left Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico hurt.
Lubos Blaha, the vice chairman of the Slovak parliament, attested to Mr. Fico's injuries from a gunshot. Four shots were fired, according to TV station TA3, with one of them striking the prime minister of Slovakia in the stomach.
Later, the Slovak Interior Ministry stated that Prime Minister Fico was the target of an assassination attempt, but it did not state what condition he was in.
The 59-year-old head of state was reportedly hit in the abdomen by gunfire and taken to the hospital, according to local media. They have detained a suspect, according to Slovak TV.

Who Is Robert Fico?
The 59-year-old Robert Fico was born in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1964. Prior to the fall of communism, he was a member of the Communist Party. He studied law in 1986 and was first elected to the Slovakian parliament in 1992 as a member of the Democratic Left Party.
He represented the Slovak Republic before the European Court of Human Rights and the European Commission of Human Rights for a number of years as a governmental agent in the 1990s. On September 15, 1964, Fico was born in the northwest Nitra Region's town of Topoččany. Ľudovit Fico, his father, operated a forklift, while Emilie Ficová, his mother, was employed at a shoe store. There are two siblings for him. His sister, Lucia Chabadová, is a fourteen-year-old prosecutor, and his brother Ladislav is an entrepreneur in the construction industry.Up until the age of six, Fico and his family resided in the village of Hušovany. After that, they relocated to the neighboring town of Topoččany.
Robert Fico: Education
Fico has stated that his early career goals were to work as an archaeologist, sports reporter, or politician.He entered the Topoľčany local gymnasium after completing elementary school, where he eventually graduated in the summer of 1982. Later that year, in what was then Czechoslovakia, he enrolled in the Comenius University of Bratislava's Law Faculty. His university professor, the future prime minister Jozef Moravčík, was impressed with him and called him "ambitious, very confident, and very involved in discussions." In 1986, he earned his Juris Doctor degree with a focus on criminal law.
Following his graduation from college, Fico served in the military for the required amount of time as an assistant military investigator from 1986 to 1987. He was stationed in the town of Janovice, which is now in Czechia. Later, he was employed by the Justice Ministry until 1992 as well as the Institute of State and Law of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.He wrote and finished his doctoral thesis, "The death penalty in Czechoslovakia," during this time. He studied at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies in London at the beginning of the 1990s on a Masaryk scholarship.After completing his postgraduate studies in 2002, he was given the title of associate professor.
Robert Fico: Career
Fico, who was born into a working-class family in 1964, studied law and then joined the Communist party in the then-Czechoslovakia.
He joined the Slovak Democratic Left (SDL) party after the Velvet Revolution of 1989, rising to the position of deputy chairman in 1998.
He formed the Direction – Social Democracy (Smer) party in 1999 after quitting the SDL, and he has been its leader ever since. More than any other politician or ruler in Slovakian history, he has held the position of prime minister on multiple occasions.
Fico is viewed as a populist and a supporter of Vladimir Putin, whom he has declared he would not permit to be detained in Slovakia under an international warrant. Slovakia has become an ally of Viktor Orbán's government in Hungary and has positioned itself much closer to Moscow under Fico.
Fico has come under fire in Europe for allegedly undermining civil groups, restricting media freedoms, and stifling investigations. But the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has praised him, saying that Fico's government has “its own opinion about the situation in the world.”
The Dutch officials and the British ambassador have been involved in multiple diplomatic disputes involving the prime minister of Slovakia. Over differences in foreign policy, the Czech government suspended talks with Bratislava in March. Additionally, France barred Slovak officials from discussions regarding the parameters of a potential peace agreement in Ukraine.
Fico is a vocal individual who has gone so far as to refer to Slovak journalists as “dirty anti-Slovak prostitutes” and the nation’s president, Zuzana Čaputová, as a “U.S. puppet.”
Currently serving his fourth term as Slovakia's prime minister is Robert Fico. Two years after the nation's EU accession, in 2006, he took office for the first time and remained in that position until 2010, when he was forced to resign two years later due to the murder of an investigative journalist and the journalist's fiancée, which sparked large-scale protests.
