Ghislaine Maxwell continues to face new more charges

Federal prosecutors in New York on Monday filed new charges of sex trafficking a minor and sex trafficking conspiracy against Ghislaine Maxwell, the former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, reported The Guardian.

This indictment also identified a new accuser in the case, referred to as “minor victim-4” in court papers, and expanded the timeframe of Maxwell is accused of grooming a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual acts with Epstein from 2001 to 2004, rather than from 1994 to 1997. The abuse allegedly took place at Epstein's Palm Beach estate in Florida. Maxwell now faces a total of eight counts.

The two new counts broaden the time period of the sexual abuse allegations that prosecutors say Maxwell and Epstein committed.

The original indictment against Maxwell was related to alleged crimes committed during the 1990s; the new indictment indicates abuse and the sex trafficking of "Minor Victim-4" continued from 2001 until as recently as 2004.

Maxwell still faces other charges that include transporting a minor for the purposes of criminal sexual activity and conspiring to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.

Maxwell allegedly met “minor victim-4” at Epstein’s south Florida home around 2001, when the girl was around 14-years-old, and “interacted with [her] on multiple occasions”, according to court papers.

During their interactions, which happened from 2001 to 2004, Maxwell allegedly “groomed minor victim – 4 to engage in sexual acts with Epstein through multiple means.”

Maxwell was arrested last July in New Hampshire — nearly a year after Epstein was charged and detained. About a month after his arrest, Epstein died after being found unresponsive in his jail cell in Manhattan. His death was ruled a suicide.

Gaining trust

Maxwell asked “minor victim-4” about her family and life. She “also sought to normalize inappropriate and abusive conduct by, among other things, discussing sexual topics in front of minor victim-4 and being present when minor victim-4 was nude in the massage room of the Palm Beach residence,” according to the court documents.

Maxwell would normalize inappropriate and abusive conduct by talking about sexual topics in front of the teen girl or by being present in the massage room when the girl was naked. Epstein's employees, including Maxwell at times, would call the victim from various locations at her home in Florida to set up an appointment to massage Epstein.

Afterward, Epstein, his employees, or Maxwell would pay the girl hundreds of dollars. From New York, Epstein's inner circle would send the girl gifts, including lingerie.

Maxwell and Epstein reportedly encouraged the girl to bring her friends or to recruit other young women to massage the much-older financier. "Minor Victim-4" allegedly brought multiple girls, including those under 18, to provide such massages for Epstein at his Palm Beach home. Epstein or Maxwell would then pay the teen and the person she brought hundreds of dollars in cash.

When Maxwell was arrested, she faced six counts, including conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and perjury, NPR cites.

Her attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the new charges. She is being held in federal detention in Brooklyn.
