Dough Burgum early life
Born August 1, 1956, Burgum grew up in Arthur, N.D. He has maintained his commitment and connection to his roots through family farm partnerships, by serving as a member for Arthur Companies, Inc., a diversified agribusiness company founded by his grandparents in 1906, and through a ranching partnership in the Badlands of western North Dakota.

Burgum went to Dakota High School Arthur, ND. Burgum attended North Dakota State University and earned an undergraduate degree in 1978. During his senior year at NDSU, he applied to the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. During that time, he also began a chimney-sweeping business. In 1980, he attended the Graduate School of Business of Stanford University and received his MBA. Burgum subsequently received honorary doctorates in 2000 from the State of North Dakota and Mary’s University in 2006.
Doug Burgum Career
In 1983, Burgum joined Great Plains Software and in 1984, he became its chairman. He sold the Great plains software company to Microsoft in 2001 for $1.1 billion. Also, Burgum became the Microsoft Business Solutions head. He also worked on the Success Factors board from 2007 and later on, he served as chairman from 2010 to 2012, respectively. Doug is the founder of the Kilbourne Group which is the real-estate development company that is based in Fargo.
In the 2016 election, Burgum competes with Democrat Marvin Nelson and Libertarian Marty Riske. He won with over 75% of the vote in the general election held in November. On 15th December 2016, Doug became the 33rd Governor.
Burgum also worked on the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Board. As well, during 2000, he was on the Success Factors board. He also becomes the chairman of the company from 2007 until the company’s sale to SAP in 2011. Burgum is the founder of a downtown Fargo-focused real estate development firm known as Kilbourne Group.
In 2001, Doug donated a refurbished school building named Renaissance Hall to North Dakota State University. In the hall, the office of the University, the visual arts department of the university, major components of the department of architecture and landscape architecture are situated. On LGBT issues, Burgum called the 2020 Republican “divisive and divisional” platform in July 2020.
The North Dakota gubernatorial election 2020 will be held to elect Governor and Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota, along with other federal and statewide elections, including the U.S. presidential election on 3rd November 2020. For re-election, both Republican Governor Doug Burgum and Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford are running, according to Celebtribune.

Burgum is married to Kathryn Burgum and has two sons, Joe and Tom, and a daughter, Jesse.

As of 2020, Doug Burgum net worth is estimated around $1.1 billion.
He grew the company to about 250 employees by 1989 and led the company to about $300 million in annual sales and a 1997 IPO, after using the Internet to help it expand beyond North Dakota.
In 2001 he sold Great Plains Software to Microsoft for $1.1 billion.
In 1997 Great Plains went public, and in 2001 it was sold to Microsoft for $1.1 billion. Burgum later was an early investor in SuccessFactors, which sold to SAP for $3.4 billion in 2012, and Atlassian, a Sydney, Australia cloud software company that went public on the Nasdaq in 2015. Burgum served as Atlassian’s chairman before stepping down to run for governor in 2016.
Doug Burgum Seems to Have a Lot of Faith in TechnologyPerhaps unsurprisingly, Burgum seems to have a lot of faith in the ability of technology to solve the challenges confronting humans in the present time, as shown by his statement that it is innovation rather than regulation that will solve oil and gas-related challenges. To an extent, this is very understandable because technological advancements have enabled past generations overcome what were once considered to be insurmountable problems, with an excellent example being how the Malthusian trap was dismantled by the Green Revolution that happened in the 1950s and 1960s. Having said that, just because technological advancements have saved us from our problems in the past, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we can count on this to always be the case in the times to come. |
