Who is David Dobrik?
David Dobrik, 25, is a YouTube star from Chicago who has accumulated over 18 million subscribers to his self-titled channel where he posts a range of comedic videos, often involving celebrities, hidden cameras, challenges, or pranks. In 2019, he began judging on Nickelodeon's America's Most Musical Family.
Before Fame
He began posting to the 6-second video app Vine in April 2013 and went on to earn more than 1 million followers on the platform.
Trivia
His YouTube channel features several videos from the Vlog Squad, a group of other former Viners. He was previously part of a collaborative YouTube channel called Second Class. In 2017 he won Breakout Creator at the Streamy Awards.
Family Life
He was born in Kosice, Slovakia, and moved to Vernon Hills, Illinois at a young age. He has three siblings, Ester, Sarah and Toby. In 2019, he was briefly married to Lorraine Nash.

After hitting 18.8 million YouTube subscribers and debuting his new $9.5 million house, some may say David Dobrik is at the peak of his career.
On March 1, Dobrik launched his new photo-sharing app, Dispo, and the reviews turned out to be the perfect platform for disappointed fans to air their grievances and demand accountability from him.
| What is the Dispo app?
Everybody’s buzzing about Dispo, a new, invite-only app that brings back some of the fun of a disposable camera. It was created by David Dobrik, a popular YouTuber who gained early fame on the now-defunct social network Vine. As of Thursday, it’s the fifth most popular photo and video app for iPhone, ahead of Google Photos. You can think of it like Instagram or VSCO, but without immediate access to the pictures you take. You also can’t edit pictures and it’s less social. Dispo’s concept is simple, which is part of the appeal in an era where people seem to need immediate gratification. There’s a view finder, controls for zoom and a flash. You can take as many pictures as you’d like, but the pictures need time to “develop.” You can’t see them until the following morning at 9 a.m. After the pictures appear in the app, Dispo users can choose to post them to either a solo or shared “roll” with other users. You can also just keep them in your library. The catch is that there’s no editing or captions, so users can be in the moment and pictures can be more casual. |
Vlog Squad – video on sex assault allegation
YouTuber David Dobrik told his fans “Im sorry if I’ve let you down” in a new video addressing accusations that a member of his “Vlog Squad” drugged and raped an extra while shooting a video in 2018.
The anonymous accuser, in a report from Business Insider on Tuesday, said Vlog Squad member Dominykas Zeglaitis, 23, (who goes by Durte Dom) got her drunk when she was 20 years old and sexually assaulted her after she came to the group’s home to film the 2018 video. (The Vlog Squad is a group of Dobrik’s close friends who create content on YouTube together. Dobrik’s main YouTube account has 18.8 million followers, while Zeglaitis’ account has more than 800,000.)
In the Business Insider story, the accuser “Hannah” and her friends are referred to by pseudonyms. So far, no charges have been filed and the accuser said she has not yet contacted the police. Dobrik, Zeglaitis and other members of the Vlog Squad did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Later in the clip, Dobrik said he “chose to distance” himself from Zeglaitis and other former associates who are no longer part of the the group’s shoots. Dobrik said it’s because he doesn’t “align with some of the actions and I don’t stand for any kind of misconduct, and I’ve been really disappointed in some of my friends, and for that reason I’ve separated from a lot of them.”
Dobrik also addressed claims made by former Vlog Squad member Joseth “Seth” Francois last month, who said he was tricked into kissing YouTuber Jason Nash in a video. Francois said he was under the pretense that he was being blindfolded to kiss a female member of the Vlog Squad. “In my case, it’s blatant… the point of the video [was] to sexually assault me,” Francois told Buzzfeed News.
Dobrik finished his video saying he believes actions speak louder than words and that he’ll “show you and prove to you the mistakes I made before won’t be happening again.”
Dobrik lose 66 million YouTube views in one day
The mega-popular YouTuber has faced growing criticism of his old content amid new accusations. At least five videos were removed by Dobrik between November 2020 and today, according to Social Blade, according to Insider.
The data comes from Social Blade, which tracks statistics of social-media stars and their content. Dobrik shed more than 66 million views on Friday, from 8,269,665,818 total views Thursday to 8,203,005,095 on Friday, according to the data.
When views suddenly disappear from a YouTuber's total view count, it's often indicative that the creator has deleted videos or the company itself removed videos. Neither representatives for Dobrik or YouTube immediately returned Insider's request for comment on whether he or YouTube deleted any of his videos.
According to Social Blade, Dobrik has 616 videos uploaded to his main YouTube channel as of Saturday. But according to an archived version of his Social Blade statistics from November 29, 2020, Dobrik had 621 videos uploaded to the platform, meaning five videos have disappeared sometime within the past four months.
Dobrik has not uploaded any videos to his primary YouTube channel since April 24, 2020.
Dobrik has also lost approximately 100,000 subscribers, down from 18.9 million Tuesday to 18.8 million subscribers Wednesday, according to Social Blade statistics accessed Saturday. Social Blade only updates YouTube subscriber data per every 100,000 subscribers gained or lost.
