Who Is Cardi B?
Cardi B first got the world's attention through social media with her tough and frank attitude about life as a stripper. Starting in 2015 she appeared on VH1's reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York and left the show in 2017 to pursue music full time. That same year she released her No. 1 single "Bodak Yellow" through Atlantic Records, and in 2019 she won a Grammy for her debut album, Invasion of Privacy.
She secretly got married to Migos group member Offset in September 2017.
Cardi B revealed her name comes from the alcoholic beverage Bacardi. "My sister's name, her name is Hennessy, so everybody used to be like Bacardi to me... then I shortened it to Cardi B, and the 'B' stands for whatever... depending on the day," she said.
Early Life and Parents
Cardi B, real name Belcalis Almanzar, was born on October 11, 1992, in The Bronx, New York. In addition, she spent a lot of time with her grandmother in nearby Washington Heights. Her father is Dominican, and her mother is Trinidadian, so she has a mixed Caribbean ancestry.
She attended Renaissance High School for Musical Theater & Technology as a teen and was a member of the Bloods gang. She chose to become a stripper in order to escape an abusive relationship and poverty, and she has made no secret of her satisfaction with this decision.
"It truly protected me from many dangers. "I went back to school when I started stripping," the woman said.
Cardi B forged her own path to success, despite dropping out of school: first on social media (via Vine and Instagram), then as a reality star (Love & Hip Hop: New York), and finally as a powerful figure in the music industry.
In a viral Instagram Live video from March 2019, Cardi B admitted to using drugs and robbing men while working as a stripper. A few days later, she addressed the situation on social media, saying, "I did what I had to do to survive," but she did not apologize.

Invasion of Privacy (2018), her debut studio album, broke multiple streaming records, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, was certified triple platinum by the RIAA, and was named the best female rap album of the 2010s by Billboard.
It was widely praised and went on to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album, making Cardi the first female rap artist to win the category as a solo performer and the first to be nominated for Album of the Year in 15 years. It gave rise to two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100: I Like It, which made her the first female rapper to have multiple number-one hits on the chart, and Bodak Yellow, which made her the second female rapper to top the chart with a solo output (after Lauryn Hill in 1998).
She became the only female rapper to reach the top of the Hot 100 three times with her Maroon 5 collaboration, Girls Like You. WAP, the lead single from her second album, became her fourth Hot 100 number-one single, expanding her record as the most successful female rapper.
