What is Valentine's Day?
February 14th is celebrated as Valentine's Day (or Saint Valentine's Day, the Feast of Saint Valentine) every year.
It's a public holiday in many places, especially the Western hemisphere, but it's still considered a workday everywhere else unless it happens to occur on a weekend. In its earliest form, Valentine's Day was simply a liturgical festival of one or more early Christian saints named Valentine (in Latin Valentinus). Poets a few centuries later added all the present romantic overtones.
In Geoffrey Chaucer's social circle during the flourishing period of courtly love in the 14th century, the day first came to be connected with romantic love.
It became a time for couples to express their love for one another by giving flowers, giving sweets, and sending greeting cards in 18th-century England (known as valentines).
In Europe, Saint Valentine's Keys are given to youngsters to prevent epilepsy (also known as Saint Valentine's Malady) as well as to lovers as a loving gesture and an invitation to unlock the giver's heart.
The outline of a heart, doves, and the image of the winged Cupid are still used as Valentine's Day symbols today.
Handwritten Valentines have been replaced by mass-produced greeting cards since the 19th century.

Hisrory of Valentine's Day
Its alleged genesis was the Catholic Church's celebration of Valentine's Day in 496 A.D., a day set aside to honor patron saints. This served as a means of eclipsing and then replacing the ostensibly cruel Pagan feast of Lupercalia. On February 15, a celebration honoring the Roman God of Agriculture, Faunus, was held at the start of spring. The sacrifice of a goat and a dog represented purity and fertility, respectively. The women and crops would then be painted with the sacrificial blood after the goat hide had been ripped into strips.
The idealized aspect of how Valentine's Day is observed now, according to historians, originated with a priest who was killed by emperor Claudius II Gothicus in or around 270 A.D. Despite the fact that there are several Valentines affiliated with the patron saints day. Stories about several Saint Valentines vary; some claim that one was secretly marrying couples to stop men from going to war, another was healing the blind, and the third penned a letter to his daughter addressed as "Your Valentine." Additionally, it's possible that they are the same individual!
The day first became associated with romance in the 1400s. Valentines, as the messages were known, started to appear. Love declarations in handwritten letters and poems were more and more common. Valentine's Day cards started to be mass-produced in the middle of the nineteenth century, and sweets and flowers, particularly red roses, which stand for beauty and love, were the typical gifts.
Valentine's Day is now celebrated with friends and family to express your love and concern for them. Businesses have jumped at the chance to time their goods and services around Valentine's Day in order to profit from the seasonal sales surge, which keeps expanding every year.
