WandaVision Guide: News, Easter Eggs, Reviews, Recaps, Theories and Rumors

WandaVision eventually came to Disney+ on January 15, 2021, achieving early critical praise on sites like Rotten Tomatoes. The show received early buzz well before its premiere and even garnered an expanded episode count before it hit screens.

It is also the MCU's best-reviewed project yet; then again, WandaVision is not without its criticisms. Still, bolstered by the promise of comics-accurate characters and more special effects than Avengers: Endgame -- Marvel and Disney’s most commercially successful film to date – WandaVision continues to garner acclaim and interest from an audience hungry for a much different take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We already know actors Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany return as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision in the upcoming Disney Plus series WandaVision. But at Disney's D23 convention on Friday, fans, and press were treated to a new trailer for the series, as well as news on cast and crew during Marvel's presentation, reported CNet.

In addition to Olsen and Bettany returning, actor Teyonah Parris is also in the series playing an older version of Monica Rambeau (the young girl from Captain Marvel). Also joining the series are actress Kat Dennings who will reprise her role as Darcy in Thor and Thor: The Dark World.

Actor Randall Park reprises his role as government agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Actress Kathryn Hahn will be playing a "nosy neighbor," but the presentation didn't reveal much else about her character.

The panel also confirmed that Game of Thrones director Matt Shakman will direct the series.

While the series has not started shooting yet, the audience also got a sneak peek of WandaVision with a new teaser trailer that "teams Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany, presents a truly off-kilter interpretation of MCU with a tonal melding of epic Marvel adventure and sitcom," Deadline reported. "It seemed like an episode of The Outer Limits at first glance (and includes an unexpected nod to The Dick Van Dyke Show). Clearly, Marvel is looking for a wide array of genre approaches to the traditional superhero saga and this partisan crowd loved it."

Interestingly, WandaVision will also tie into the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Events that happen in WandaVision will directly tie in with the Doctor Strange film.

WandaVision Easter Eggs, Theories and Rumors

As Marvel's WandaVision continues on Disney+, each week brings with it Easter Eggs and references to not only Marvel's storied history but also to the classic TV shows that clearly inspired it.

WandaVision Easter Eggs

Game On! - Episode 7 (2:20) - Billy and Tommy are seen playing with Wii Remotes, but they soon change to GameCube controllers, Atari Joysticks, and then Uno cards.

WandaFamily - Episode 7 (2:43) - This episode is inspired by shows like Modern Family, perhaps most notably when the characters are seen talking to the camera, breaking the fourth wall. Oh, did we happen to mention the name of the episode was also "Breaking the Fourth Wall?"

House of M - Episode 7 (3:21) - This one could be a bit of a stretch, but Wanda has Maxwell House coffee in her fridge. It's pretty clear this show takes inspiration from the classic House of M storyline from the comics, and this particular brand of coffee could be playing into that.

Sugar Snaps - Episode 7 (3:30) - Wanda's Sugar Snaps cereal is another reference to Thanos, who caused so much of the grief Wanda is dealing with.

Stan Lee Tribute - Episode 7 (4:12) - It's pointed out that one of the Wanda license plates in the in-show opening credits has the numbers 122822 on them. Stan Lee's birthday was December 28, 1922.

From nods to I Love Lucy and Bewitched to pivotal stories in Marvel comics and the MCU to what potentially may be the most important cameo yet, these episodes are filled with callbacks that can be easy to miss and may give us a glimpse as to what the future holds for not only WandaVision but the MCU as a whole.

WandaVision Theory: The Mind Stone Is the Key to Everything

WandaVision Guide: News, Easter Eggs, Reviews, Recaps, Theories and Rumors

In order to explain the Mind Stone Theory, we need to determine what actions Wanda most likely took after the last time we saw her at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.

Alone and grief-stricken, it’s not hard to imagine Wanda began searching for a way to restore her one true love, Vision, back to life.

Wanda discovered Vision’s body was being held at SWORD headquarters and broke in to recover it, as Acting Director Hayward showed via security camera footage in Episode 5.

Now, despite having Vision’s body accounted for, Wanda would still be missing the one key ingredient to give him the spark of life, the Mind Stone. Picture this: Wanda reassembling Vision’s body and powering him up, only to grimly realize he’s a shadow of his former self because he’s without the miraculous essence of life granted by the Mind Stone.

This puts Wanda in an impossible situation. Thanos destroyed the Mind Stone along with the rest of the Infinity Stones at the start of Endgame, and Captain America returned Loki’s stolen staff to its proper place in the past at the end of that same movie. Assuming time-travel is off the table, that leaves Wanda with only one feasible option to obtain the Mind Stone, as cited by IGN.

This brings us to the crux of our entire theory: Wanda took the Mind Stone from another universe. Hear us out on this one. If Wanda has a new Mind Stone from another reality, then it easily answers numerous questions.

How Did Vision Come Back to Life?

Wanda gave him the Mind Stone from another universe.

Granted, there was that scary flash of zombie-Vision, which made us wonder if that is Vision’s true state, and the normal Vision we’re seeing is a mere illusion and he doesn’t actually have the Mind Stone. But in Episode 5 Captain Monica Rambeau, Agent Jimmy Woo, and Dr. Darcy Lewis discover everything inside the Hex is real, not an illusion, so that would seemingly mean the Mind Stone is the real deal, too.

Perhaps undead Vision only appeared in Wanda’s mind as a nightmarish flash of what would happen to him if he didn’t have the Mind Stone anymore. You could argue Vision’s Mind Stone could be some other matter transmuted into a gem that looks like the Mind Stone but doesn’t have its power, just like Monica’s kevlar vest becoming ‘70s chic, but for the sake of our theory, we’re assuming that’s not the case.

WandaVision's Villain Rumors

What's a superhero show without the possibility of a looming threat? The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a litany of antagonistic presences, many of whom have a direct connection to the star characters of WandaVision. Ultron, from Avengers: Age of Ultron, for example, is Vision's older "brother," or perhaps one of his "fathers"... or both?

Thanos, the big bad of the entire MCU, killed Vision in Avengers: Infinity War, before being killed himself in Avengers: Endgame. That ended up being a very bad idea, not just because it was revealed that Wanda could have single-handedly destroyed the so-called Mad Titan if she really wanted to.

But what about other potential Marvel baddies in WandaVision, like Dormammu from Doctor Strange or even Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2? Both are still at large in the universe, and with both tech-based and magical issues assailing the couple on WandaVision, it's not baseless to assume it could be either foe. Perhaps the biggest rumor, though, and certainly the show's most compelling, is that Marvel's resident devil, Mephisto, may be introduced in the series. If true, that could mean a threat even greater than Thanos.
