Valentine’s Day: 15 Practical Gifts for Your Beloved
Practical gifts for Valentine's Day

Table of Contents

Giving useful gifts isn't usually the norm on Valentine's Day; instead, it's more commonly associated with going big (jewellery!), sexy (lingerie!), or decadent (chocolate and red wine!). However, this Valentine's Day, you might want to prioritize utility over elegance and get your sweetie a present they'll cherish for years to come.

Of course, it can be difficult to give a useful gift, particularly on a romantic holiday. When given properly, however, a practical gift finds the ideal balance between being meaningful and practical.

1. Our Place Always Pan

We tried this pretty pink pan and loved it, as well; you've probably seen it everywhere. We also adore it in bright red. The Always Pan is capable of replacing an astounding eight kitchen appliances. Combine it with an online cooking course from Sur La Table to create a date night that is socially isolated. (We also recommend getting the brand's useful spruce steamer for perfectly cooked vegetables, dumplings, and other foods.)

2. Tushy Classic Bidet

If you haven’t already taken the bidet plunge, the Tushy can be a wonderful gift indeed. Our editors loved the basic bidet, the Tushy Classic, but for those who live in colder climates, the Tushy Spa may be a better choice because it offers a warm water cleansing option. For a few extra bells and whistles, you can also splurge on the slightly upgraded Tushy Classic 3.0.

3. Pom Pom At Home Trestles Oversize Throw Blanket

A gorgeous oversized throw blanket is a great present idea if you and your partner enjoy cuddling up on the couch. The soft pink hue is a tasteful nod to Valentine's Day that works well in practically any space throughout the year. Additionally, cuddling up with your sweetie under a blanket on a chilly night is a great way to strengthen your relationship—after all, the phrase is "Netflix and chill," not "Netflix and chilly."

4. DellCoveSpices Gourmet Popcorn

Really great popcorn makes another great Valentine’s Day present for the movie enthusiast. DellCoveSpices offers tons of yummy varieties of specialty popping corn. Add a set of gourmet seasonings in flavors like salt and vinegar, chocolate caramel and classic butter to spice up the gift.

5. Rose Parade Sip Sip Tumbler With Straw

When considering Valentine's Day gift ideas, roses are a classic choice that come in a variety of arrangements. Products with rose scents, such as body lotion or bubble bath, are one approach, but choosing gifts with scent in mind can be challenging. Unless you are positive that your significant other enjoys flowers, you would be better off getting a rose-themed gift, such as this reusable water tumbler with an incredibly lovely pink and blue rose pattern.

6. Soundcore Q30 ANC Headphones

According to Cnet, if you want to sit and truly enjoy a piece of music, you should use over-the-ear headphones with large drivers, plush earcups, and active noise cancellation to block out any outside noise that might be distracting you.

The Soundcore Q30 is an incredibly well-liked and highly regarded headphone. It provides plenty of features and excellent sound quality at an incredibly appealing price. If you're trying to take care of your ears, it's definitely worth a look.

7. Comfy Wearable Blanket

Look, if you're going to be stuck home alone, you might as well be warm and comfortable, right? Who's going to see you? The Comfy looks pretty silly regardless of who's wearing it, but, dang it, the thing is ridiculously warm and comfortable. I like this version with the quarter-zip neck.

8. Box One

This tabletop game was created with the single player in mind, as its name suggests. It's quite unusual, but this is also somewhat of a relief: you can still have fun with an escape room-style experience even if you're not in a relationship at the moment.

Yes, this "room" is packaged in a box, but Neil Patrick Harris designed that box. Plus, it's a lot of fun to solve puzzles for at least a few hours.

9. Zimasilk 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase

A luxurious upgrade can transform an ordinary-looking item into a gift that will wow the recipient. Pillowcases, for instance, aren't particularly giftable, but silk pillowcases are. Silk pillowcases are not only incredibly stylish but also a wise investment because they are less drying than cotton ones, which is better for your skin and hair. These silk pillowcases are available in six different sizes and an astounding 36 colors, including red.

10. Hamilton Beach Digital Food Dehydrator

A new problem has emerged as working from home grows more prevalent in our professional lives: we need snacks. Working from home reduces the likelihood of midday newsstand and convenience store runs, and we no longer have in-office snack stations to nibble on. A food dehydrator is a fun hobby in addition to solving the problem of at-home snacks. It's a fantastic present for someone who enjoys snacking on fruit leather during Zoom meetings or for someone who loves jerky and wants to make their own.

11. Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother

The coffee shop stop is another office tradition that many people have abandoned. Give your sweetie a gift of fine coffee, flavoring syrups, and a milk frother if they have been missing their afternoon vanilla latte or morning triple espresso.

12. KitchenAid Cordless Chopper

We adore giving tiny kitchen appliances as gifts. There is a wide variety of pricing points, features, and colors available for small appliances like air fryers and breakfast sandwich makers; red, rose gold, or pink are the obvious choices for Valentine's Day. Experts in meal prep love this red chopper, but if that sounds too risky (get it?!) there's also a great option in a heart-shaped waffle maker.

13. Zadro Luxury Bucket-Style Towel Warmer

What could be more delightful than a cozy embrace? a cozy towel. Although it seems like a luxury, a towel warmer is actually quite an inexpensive luxury. All you have to do is plug this bucket-style warmer into an existing wall outlet.

14. Omystyle Full-Body Bath Pillow

Another inexpensive luxury bathroom upgrade is a spa cushion. If your loved one enjoys taking soothing baths, this padded full-body tub mat with an attached bath pillow to support the head and neck will elevate the experience beyond bath bombs and salts.

15. Cabepow Long iPhone Charger Cord

One of those things you won't know how you ever lived without is an extra-long phone charging cable. The red and pink Cabepow 10-foot charging cord transforms it from an ordinary tech accessory into a thoughtful gift that is perfect for the holidays.

Valentine’s Day: A Day of Romance

Even though lupercalia endured the early Christian renaissance, it was banned at the end of the 5th century by Pope Gelasius, who proclaimed February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day. It was not until much later, however, that the day became definitively associated with love. The notion that Valentine's Day should be spent in the middle was furthered by the widespread belief throughout the Middle Ages in France and England that February 14 marked the start of the bird mating season. In his poem "Parliament of Foules," written in 1375, English poet Geoffrey Chaucer became the first to document St. Valentine's Day as a day of romantic celebration. He writes, "For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne's day / Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate," according to History.

Although written Valentine's Day cards didn't start to appear until after 1400, Valentine greetings were common as early as the Middle Ages. A poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was being held captive in the Tower of London after his capture at the Battle of Agincourt is the oldest known Valentine still in existence today. (The greeting is currently housed in the British Library's manuscript collection in London, England.) A few years later, it's thought that King Henry V employed John Lydgate, a writer, to write Catherine of Valois a Valentine's Day card.
