The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is currently the most valuable coin in the world. Interestingly enough, it isn’t the rarest — the coins were minted between 1907 and 1933, but many cashed in the gold in exchange for paper money. You may find some Double Eagles but the 1933 is the most valuable due to its sale for $18.9 million in 2021.

2. 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar- $10,016,875

Between 1794 and 1795, the Flowing Hair Silver Dollar was the first official silver-dollar coin minted in the United States. The early 1794 release brought top dollar, selling for just over $10 million to a Las Vegas collector in 2013. Good news: despite the fact that nearly 2,000 coins were produced in 1794, only 130 are estimated to remain. You might be fortunate enough to come across one.

3. Brasher Doubloon-$10,009,500

The 1787 Brasher Doubloon is the first gold coin ever struck in the United States, created by one of George Washington's neighbors, Ephraim Brasher, before the first federal mint opened in the United States. It is now one of the most valuable coins.

While seven were made in total, only one bears Ephraim Brasher's initials on the eagle's breast. This coveted item is one of the most valuable rare coins sought after by collectors, and it was last sold in 2021 for $9.36 million, which equates to $10,009,500 in 2023 dollars.

4. Edward III Florin-$6,816,000

The 1343 Edward III Florin is also known as the Double Leopard and is a medieval coin created in 1343 and 1344. The two still remaining today were found in 1857 while a third coin was found by someone in England using a metal detector. The coin was sold at auction for £460,000 in 2006, but is estimated to be worth $6.8 million today.

5. Umayyad Gold Dinar-$5,418,400

For collectors, the Umayyad Gold Dinar is valuable for several reasons. First and foremost, it is a lovely coin with intricate designs that are both eye-catching and one-of-a-kind. Second, it is a rare coin because it was only minted for a short time during the Umayyad dynasty. Collectors regard it as valuable and sought-after currency as a result. Finally, the Gold Dinar has a long and rich history, which makes it a thrilling and desirable coin.

6. Canadian Gold Maple Leaf-$5,315,400

This dramatic, oversized coin weighs 220 pounds and is the world's largest gold coin, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Only six were produced, with one fetching €3.7 million in 2010. Surprisingly, the size and weight did not deter thieves. One was stolen from Berlin's Bode Museum in 2017.

Back to U.S. coins, the Liberty Head V Nickel is another valuable coin. It doesn’t exist in the U.S. Mint’s records but five 1913 Liberty Head V Nickels are in existence. It was replaced by the Indian Head nickel but the rare Liberty Head Vs are highly sought after by collectors. Two are in museum collections at the Smithsonian and ANA Money Museum. The most recent sale of the coin was $4.2 million in 2022.

10. 1804 Bust Dollar - Class I (Mickley-Hawn-Queller Specimen)

This is the same coin that sold for $3,737,500 in April 2008 and is listed as the #10 Most Valuable Coins in the World above. In contrast to the Hawaii Five-O 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, which lost nearly $500,000 when it was sold a second time, this owner made a $140,000 profit when he sold it.

11. 1894-S Barber Dime-$2,412,200

There were very few 1894-S Barber Dimes minted. Only 24, according to experts. However, nine have been discovered, so you could be one of the lucky few to discover one of the remaining 15. If you need any more incentive to start sorting through your change or purchasing a metal detector, one of the rare dimes sold for $1.99 million in 2016.

12. Lincoln Head Copper Penny-$2,325,200

Pennies were always minted with copper. But during World War II, copper and nickel were needed for other purposes and the U.S. Mint produced 1943 pennies with steel. 13. 1943-D Lincoln Bronze Cent- $1,700,000

Accidents can result in the creation of the rarest coins. When the United States switched from bronze alloy to zinc-plated steel pennies in 1943, only a few bronze pennies escaped. Each of the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints is thought to have produced fewer than 20 coins.

14. 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar-$551,272

A second silver dollar is added to the list of valuable coins. Due to the limited number of 100,000 issued between 1878 and 1904, with an additional run in 1921, the 1893 editions are the most valuable. Despite its relatively small run in comparison to other coins, it can fetch up to $550,000.

15. Sacagawea Cheerios Dollar-$25,058

It's not a typo: Cheerios included a coin in 5,500 boxes of cereal in 2000. The promotion coincided with the release of a coin by the United States Mint. Fewer than 100 of the thousands of coins had the enhanced tail-feather design that collectors are looking for — and willing to pay up to $25,000 for.
