CAST: John Leguizamo, Dennis Leary, Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson

RATING: TV-G

DESCRIPTION: This 25-minute Ice Age story features all your favorite characters like Sid (Leguizamo), Diego (Leary), Manny (Ray Romano) and Ellie (Queen Latifah). Our favorite sloth, Sid, is tasked with egg-sitting, a seemingly simple job, but when the eggs are stolen, the whole crew needs to work together to find them.

2. Peter Rabbit

Every good Easter film needs a rabbit, and few come more famous than Peter Rabbit himself. This 2018 update of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale sees James Corden voice the titular bunny (now computer-generated) as he battles Domhnall Gleeson’s Mr. McGregor for his vegetable garden. A sequel was originally due out this Easter, but has since been delayed.

3. 'Winnie The Pooh: Springtime With Roo'

CAST: Jim Cummings, Ken Sansom

RATING: G

DESCRIPTION: Easter means springtime, and there’s no better place to celebrate the seasons than the Hundred Acre Wood. Unfortunately for you Easter purists who want your bunnies to reflect the hope and rebirth of the season, Rabbit is, as always, the killjoy of the group. While everyone excitedly prepares for Easter and the bounty of spring, Rabbit makes everyone wait to enjoy the outdoors until they finish their spring cleaning.

4. Rise of the Guardians

The Avengers of holiday films, this 3-D computer-animated adventure gives us the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost as you’ve never seen them before. Reimagined as superhero-esque protectors, the fantasy characters team up to form the Guardians in order to stop the evil spirit Pitch from taking over the world. Some real-life acting legends appropriately take on the roles, with Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law all lending their voices.

5. The Secret Life of Pets 2

A sequel to one of the biggest animated comedies of the last few years, The Secret Life of Pets 2 sees Max the terrier embark on a worrisome trip to the countryside with his friends. Turns out pets secretly have movie star voices – the film features Patton Oswalt, Kevin Hart, Eric Stonestreet and Harrison Ford (!) in his voice acting debut. At a time when we’re constantly with our pets, here’s a chance to see what they do when you’re not around.

6. 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'

Photo: Disney
Photo: Disney

CAST: Tilda Swinton, James McAvoy, Georgie Henley

RATING: PG

DESCRIPTION: Aslan, King of Beasts, is the titular lion in the film, and the author of the books upon which the film is based, C.S. Lewis, has made no secret of the fact that he is meant to represent Christ. Aslan, like Jesus, dies and is later resurrected to save one of the children who enters the magical wardrobe that leads to his home, Narnia. In addition to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Disney+ also carries The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

7. 'Secrets of Christ's Tomb: Explorer Special'

CAST: Stefan Ashton-Franks

RATING: TV-PG

DESCRIPTION: And now, the reason for the season. National Geographic’s Secrets of Christ’s Tomb: Explorer Special is a documentary featuring archaeologists, religious scholars and many other experts who attempt to restore what has long been thought to be the actual tomb of Jesus Christ, while also discussing the mysteries and long-held beliefs about his burial.

8. Chicken Little

Disney’s first fully computer-animated movie (and one of their first forays into 3D), this often forgotten film from 2005 has an adorable cast of animal characters to keep the kids entertained this Easter. When Zach Braff’s Chicken Little becomes convinced that the sky is falling, no-one believes him. Until aliens start invading.

9. Zootropolis (Zootopia)

While there are no Easter celebrations here, a tough bunny is the star of one of Disney’s biggest hits of the last few years. Zootropolis (better known as Zootopia outside the UK) follows rookie rabbit cop Judy Hopps as she teams up with con artist fox, Nick Wilde to solve a conspiracy. As well as earning over $1billion worldwide, it’s also one of the best modern Disney films. We gave it five stars.

10. Jesus Christ Superstar

A chance to remind ourselves of the original Easter story – perhaps with a few creative liberties – this 1973 adaptation of the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical emphasises the superstar part of the title. If you prefer your Bible stories with jet fighters and disco costumes, then this is the film for you.

11. 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'

Photo: Disney
Photo: Disney

CAST: Bob Hoskins, Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Charles Fleischer

RATING: PG

DESCRIPTION: During the Golden Age of Hollywood, animated characters and humans coexisted, with all cartoons living in Toontown. When Toontown – and its inhabitants – are threatened by the evil Judge Doom who can wipe them all out with his toxic “dip,” a chemical eraser that can literally scrub away all the toons. Private eye Eddie Valiant (Hoskins), who is already investigating the marriage of Roger and Jessica Rabbit, gets involved and together they all try to defeat Doom’s plan to wipe out the city. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is simultaneously a classic and a cult favorite. Back in 1988 when it was released, it did things that no other movie had done. It combined animation with live action, it married a wacky cartoon bunny to a sexy cartoon lady. Roger Rabbit might just be the most famous rabbit ever, after the Easter Bunny.

12. 'Easter Island: Unsolved'

CAST: Peter Demeo

RATING: TV-14

DESCRIPTION: Easter Island: Unsolved is another National Geographic doc that explores the mysterious Easter Island, located in the Pacific Ocean roughly halfway between South America and Tahiti. Rapa Nui, the name given by the island’s natives, was discovered by Westerners in 1722 on Easter Sunday, hence the new name it was given. The documentary explains the fascinating history and disappearance of the culture of the island.
