8. Denali, USA

Denali, the massive mountain in Alaska, is the continent's highest point. Craggy and snow-covered, it soars to more than 6,190 metres above sea level, rising from the stark valleys of Alaska's Denali National Park. After decades of debate, in 2016 the mountain was officially renamed Denali, a name long used by native peoples. Previously, it had been known as Mt. McKinley.
The Denali Park Road winds for about 92 miles, providing excellent views of the peak. Even though it's colder in the winter, you'll probably have clearer skies and better views of the mountain. During summer you can drive the first fifteen miles of the road, which is studded with stop-offs offering postcard-worthy views of the mountain from around mile nine. Keep an eye out for grizzly bears, as well.
Take one of the park's tour or transit buses to get even closer. Reflection Pond is a large body of water in which Denali is perfectly reflected, and the Kantishna Experience Tour bus drives by it.
Denali is a treacherous mountain that should only be attempted by expert mountaineers. If this describes you, the standard route up the West Buttress is your best bet.

However, Fuji is difficult to catch because it constantly hides in the clouds. But if you stick it out, you'll be glad you did.

If you're up for a hike, you can take your pick from four different paths that wind around the mountain. The most traveled route is the Yoshida Trail, and buses will take you there straight from Tokyo.

Keep an eye out for endemic African species such as dassies: cute-as-a-button, furry mammals that look a little like plump meerkats.
You might not be aware that Table Mountain is also among the oldest mountains on Earth. Aged at over 200 million years, it was first scaled by a Portuguese explorer named António de Saldanha in the early 16th century.
In just five minutes, a cable car can transport 800 people an hour to the peak of Table Mountain. Buying tickets in advance will save you time on the day of your visit, allowing you to spend more time taking in the breathtaking views of Cape Town from the observation deck.
