How large are wind power resources in China?
With the most installed capacity of any country and continued rapid growth in new wind facilities, China is the world leader in wind power generation.
China has exceptional wind power resources due to its large land mass and long coastline: it is estimated that China has approximately 2,380 gigatonnes (GW) of exploitable capacity on land and 200GW on the sea.
At the end of 2021, wind power remained China's third-largest source of electricity, accounting for 7.5% of total power generation.

The SPIC Binhai North Phase 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Jiangsu province, five hours north of Shanghai, is one of China's largest, with 100 turbines with a capacity of 400 MW, enough to power 350,000 households.
The wind farm is located 22 kilometers off the coast in an earthquake-prone area with very soft soil. The seabed is made up of deposits washed out by large rivers, posing a high risk of soil liquefaction. This imposed unique requirements on the design and construction of the foundations, which are placed 60 meters beneath the seabed to support the turbines at depths of 14-18 meters.
