Nine Georgian hospitals were included in a recent list of the top hospitals in the country for 2024 by Healthgrades, an online directory of doctors and hospitals.
Healthgrades examined data from 4,500 hospitals nationwide for the 2024 edition of its America's Best Hospitals ranking in order to calculate the death and complication rates for 31 of the most prevalent illnesses and surgeries. The top hospitals in this year's awards program excelled in 18 different medical specialties among the 32 qualifying states.

How Many Hospitals in Georgia?
As of the year 2024, Georgia was home to more than 150 hospitals. Increases in population are largely responsible for the rising trend in hospitalization rates seen in recent years. There are 131 hospitals that have completely banned smoking, including 94 general hospitals, 26 critical access hospitals, 7 specialty hospitals, and 3 hospitals for mental and behavioral health.
As of December 2024, the US state of Georgia had more than 110 registered general acute care hospitals with more than 22,000 licensed beds.
Atlanta has five of the ten largest general acute care hospitals in Georgia, with the other five located in Albany, Macon, Marietta, Columbus, and Gainesville.
