As summer officially fades to fall, Netflix has big plans for October 2021. The streaming platform is preparing to premiere a ton of new movies and TV shows in October, with some titles dropping on Oct. 1 but others will gradually premiere throughout the month. Coming to Netflix on October 1

1. 27 Steps of May (2018) – Award-winning Indonesian drama about a woman discovering a world beyond her traumatic past.

2. A Sinister Sect: Colonia Dignidad (Season 1) – Historical documentary about a religious leader establishing a base in Chile.

On Oct. 1, Netflix will release A Sinister Sect: Colonia Dignidad, a documentary about a German Nazi sect that was established in Chile in 1961.

The leader and preacher of the sect, Paul Schäfer, was accused of sexual abuse and torture. The docu-series will show the practices carried out by Schäfer and his followers in the Province of Linares in Chile.

The leader of this German colony had been part of the Hitler Youth and his intention was to take his nationalist military ideology to South America.

3. Diana: The Musical (2021) – A taping of the Broadway play Diana: The Musical which is based on the Princess of Wales. Was filmed during the height of the pandemic.

4. Eagle Eye (2008) – Shia LaBeouf headlines this mystery thriller about two strangers who are paired together and facing challenges and if they don’t comply, they’ll lose everything.

5. Eternal Summer (2006) – Taiwanese LGBTQ romance drama.

Studious Jonathan (Bryant Chang) and rebellious Shane (Hsiao-chuan Chang) first meet as elementary school classmates. Years later, when a new girl arrives in school, she quickly falls for Jonathan, but he rebuffs her, and she turns her affections to his best friend, Shane. A love triangle develops, leaving Jonathan questioning his sexual identity and his feelings for Shane in this sensitive coming-of-age film.

6. Forever Rich (2021) – Dutch comedy about a rapper who maintains a tough-guy persona which is under threat after a violent robbery.

7. Live by Night (2016) – Ben Affleck stars in this crime drama about a group of gangsters from Boston who set up shop down in Florida.

8. Maid (Limited Series) – Adapting a New York Times best-selling memoir you’ll join a single mother who is struggling to keep ends meet after taking up a housekeeping job.

Inspired by Stephanie Land’s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive, this limited series tells the story of Alex (Margaret Qualley), a single mother who begins working as a maid after escaping an abusive relationship. As she struggles to make ends meet and overcome homelessness, Alex works tirelessly to make a better life for her daughter Maddy (Rylea Nevaeh Whittet). If MAID‘s trailer is anything to go off of, this series will be an inspirational tearjerker anchored by a strong performance from Qualley.

9. Oats Studio – Volume 1 (Season 1) – A collection of CG short films from director Neill Blomkamp.

10. Our Brand is Crisis (2015) – Comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie sees an American consultant recruited to help re-elect a relatively useless and controversial president in Bolivia.

11. Paik’s Spirit (Season 1) – Korean talk show.

12. Project X (2012) – Todd Phillips produces this late-night comedy about three high school seniors throwing a birthday party to make a name for themselves. Things get out of hand and fast.

13. Scaredy Cats (Season 1) – Kids live-action series based on three young witches.

14. Swallow (2021) – Nollywood movie based on the 2010 novel.

With “Swallow,” director Carlo Mirabella-Davis draws us into the domestic horror of a housewife. Against a backdrop of pink hues, Hunter (Haley Bennett), a soft-spoken new bride, finds her inner life spiraling. Born into a troubled home, Hunter has married into a picture-perfect wealthy family. Her acceptance, however, quickly becomes conditional on her obedience, as she spends long days in her husband's isolated modernist home, overlooking an endless forest.

15. The Cave (2005) – Horror movie where a group of divers become trapped in a cave full of blood-thirsty creatures.

16.The DUFF (2015) – High school comedy about a senior who seeks to disrupt the social order after being called a DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend)

17. The Guilty (2021) – Jake Gyllenhaal and Ethan Hawke star in this thriller about a police officer who has been moved to dispatch duty.

18. The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light (2021) N – The second feature film in the anime franchise.

5. The Blacklist (Season 8) – The latest season of the NBC series headlined by James Spader.

6. The Five Juanas (Season 1) – Telenova about five women who are linked after they discover the have the same birthmark.

7. There’s Someone Inside Your House (2021) N – Horror thriller ahead of Halloween from producer Shawn Levy. The movie follows a group of young outsiders who are hoping to stop a serial killer.
