12 Big TV Shows on Netflix, Amazon, CBS Cancelled or Ending in 2021
It’s the circle of life: New TV shows are born, old TV shows get canceled (either before their time or at a natural ending point). This year seems to have more than its usual share of big TV series cancellations, with long-running favorites like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, NCIS: New Orleans, Shameless and The Walking Dead embarking on their final seasons. And Judge Judy is finally hanging up her gavel!
And more TV shows keep getting canceled — MacGyver is one of the latest victims of the axe, while Netflix has announced that Castlevania season 4 will be its last (but the universe may continue). We haven't even had time to start mourning Pose, Dear White People or The Bold Type!
List of 12 big TV shows that will cancel in 2021:
1. The Bold Type
2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
3. Castlevania
4. Dead to Me
5. Dear White People
6. GLOW
7. Insecure
8. Judge Judy
9. Keeping Up With the Kardashians
10. Lucifer
11. MacGyver
12. Mom
The Bold Type - Seasons: 5

Like many other shows, The Bold Type had to cut its season short last year when the pandemic forced it to shut down production. Freeform is bringing it back for a fifth and final edition, which will have to wrap up quite a few dangling threads — like Jane taking on a story that could harm Scarlet editor-in-chief Jacqueline's career, the implosion of Sutton's marriage and Kat's involvement with a staunch conservative — plus deliver a series finale that satisfies fans.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Seasons: 8

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming to an end after its eighth season, which is set to air as early as fall 2021, NBC announced. The comedy starring Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero, and Andre Braugher, among others, initially ran for five seasons on FOX before being canceled by the network and rescued by NBC. The final season, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will contain 10 episodes.
Castlevania - Seasons: 4

Netflix's anime series will draw to a close, with Castlevania season 4 wrapping up the saga of the Belmont clan trying to wipe out Dracula for good. But fans should take heart — Netflix is reportedly looking to make a new series set in the Castlevania universe with an entirely new cast of characters.
Dead to Me - Seasons: 3

We're already mourning Dead to Me, which is ending with the show's third and final season in 2021. The dark dramedy stars Christina Applegate as foul-mouthed widow Jen and Linda Cardellini as her best friend Judy, who accidentally killed Jen's husband in a hit-and-run, both actresses delivering magnetic performances. The show became a favorite binge thanks Applegate and Cardellini's magnetic performances, to its jaw-dropping cliffhangers, and its outrageous twists.
Dear White People - Seasons: 4

The dramedy about Black students navigating culture and race relations at a fictional Ivy League college has earned raves from critics, even if it never became a full-on sensation. Creator Justin Simien will drop 10 more episodes before departing for more high-profile projects; he's reportedly attached to a Lando Star Wars series and is making a Haunted Mansion remake for Disney.
GLOW - Seasons: 3

Zoya the Destroyer, Liberty Belle and the rest of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling aren’t getting a last bow. While Netflix renewed the dramedy for a fourth and final season, the streamer reversed the decision due to the coronavirus pandemic. But now, productions have restarted, so come on, Netflix — who do we have to powerbomb to get some proper closure?
Insecure - Seasons: 5
Photo: HBO |
After its critically acclaimed run on HBO, Issa Rae's sharp comedy will come to a close with its fifth season. Insecure took a more serious turn in Season 4 with its gutting depiction of the deteriorating relationship between Issa (Rae) and her best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji). The show's final season is slated to air later in 2021.
Judge Judy - Seasons: 25

The courtroom will soon be adjourned, when Judge Judy bangs the gavel one last time on her syndicated series some time in 2021. But don't worry about missing her brand of tough, no-nonsense advice because reruns will continue to air. Plus, Judy Sheindlin will star in a new show, Judy Justice, set to air in 2022.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians - Seasons: 20

The polarizing reality series starring the Kardashian clan is coming to an end after 14 years with its 20th season, slated to air in early 2021. In an Instagram post announcing Keeping Up with the Kardashians' ending, Kim Kardashian West wrote, "It is with heavy hearts that we've made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. … This show made us who we are and I will be forever in debt to everyone who played a role in shaping our careers and changing our lives forever."
Lucifer- Seasons: 6

Lucifer has come back from the dead so many times, it’s easy not to believe that the sixth season is the end. The show was canceled by Fox, saved by Netflix, canceled by Netflix after season 5 and then un-canceled for one more hurrah. But this time, everyone swears this is the “FINAL final” season. With filming already completed, fans could get their last devilish delight by the end of 2021.
MacGyver - Seasons: 5

Time has run out for the Lucas Till-starring MacGyver reboot. CBS announced that the April 30 Season 5 finale will serve as the series finale. The reimagining of the popular 1985 show stars Till as Angus "Mac" MacGyver, an ingenious undercover agent with some impressive engineering chops. MacGyver faced some controversy during its five-season run, with CBS firing showrunner Peter Lenkov last year after reports that he created a toxic work environment. Thirty people spoke out against the former EP, including Till, who said he endured verbal abuse, bullying, and body-shaming from Lenkov that caused him to consider suicide. After CBS announced the show cancellation, Till wrote on Instagram that he will look back on his time on the show as "THE most formative years of my life," adding, "I learned to push myself to new limits, breaking through and through and through. Was nervous to take up the mantle of an icon and you guys allowed me into your homes and accepted me. I'm like the Roger Moore of MacGyvers now thanks to your support."
Mom - Seasons: 8

The writing was on the wall when Anna Faris left the sitcom last year, but CBS made Mom’s cancellation official in February. Still, Emmy winner Allison Janney told James Corden she wishes the writers had “more time to ramp up to the ending.” Comedy impresario Chuck Lorre himself penned the series finale, which airs May 13.
