Heirs to the Aldi retail fortune, Beate Heister and Karl Albrecht Jr. are the children of Karl Albrecht Sr., who died in 2014 at age 94.

After World War II, Karl Sr. and his brother, Theo Sr., who died in 2010 at age 88, took over their family's corner grocery store in Essen, Germany.

In 1961, the brothers split ownership: Karl Sr. took the stores in southern Germany (Aldi Sued), plus rights to the Aldi brand in the U.K., Australia and the U.S.

In the U.S., Aldi has more than 2,000 stores in 36 states, offering low prices and no-frills shopping.

Theo Sr. got the stores in northern Germany and the rest of Europe. In 1971, he bought U.S. grocery chain Trader Joe's.

As per the Forbes website, Dm, a leading drugstore chain headquartered in Karlsruhe city in Germany was founded by Goetz Werner in 1973. In 1974, Guenther invested in it.

Susanne Hanna Ursula Klatten is a German billionaire heiress, the daughter of Herbert and Johanna Quandt. Her net worth was estimated at US$23.4 billion, and the richest woman in Germany and the 65th richest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Susanne was born on the 28th day of April 1962 to Herbert Quandt and Johanna Quandt; who was the third wife of the German businessman. Herbert had four children from his previous two marriages. After his death in 1982, his wealth was shared amongst his wives and children.

After obtaining a degree in business finance, Susanne worked for an advertising agency, Young & Rubicam in Frankfurt from 1981 to 1983. She went further to study a course in Marketing as well as Management at the University of Buckingham. The billionaire heiress also has an MBA from IMD Business School in Lausanne where she specialized in Advertising.

She interned at several banks and management consultancies and also interned as a trainee at BMW under the name Susanne Kant to avoid revealing her identity.

Susanne was married to Jan Klatten in 1990 and together, they had three children. In 2018 however, the duo got separated.

She also founded an educational centre for innovation and business creation, UnternehmerTUM at the Technical University of Munich.

She also founded the Nantesbuch Foundation, an estate site that was converted into an art and nature foundation is to allow people to experience the power of nature.

She owns 40% of Entrust Datacard, a closely held credit card and passport manufacturer.

Susanne Klatten is politically inclined towards the center-right political party, the Christian Democratic Union and often supports donations to support their operations.
