It was all eyes on Susie the Psychic Pig as Ouseburn Farm's star resident prepared to make her eagerly-awaited prediction about the upcoming England game.

With just three days to go before the team's first Euros match against Croatia, there was tension in the air as onlookers waited to find out if the Three Lions might be bringing home the bacon.

In the run-up to the start of the tournament, Susie has become almost as big a local talking point as the football itself, following news that she possesses psychic abilities and will be using them to predict England's chances.

And her favourite medium for conveying her predictions is food.

Susie the Psychic pig had no hesitation in predicting England will beat Croatia on Sunday.

Hugh Stolliday, manager at the farm in Newcastle 's Ouseburn Valley, had said: “We believe in Susie’s psychic powers.

"She’s a superstar down here at Ouseburn Farm and a favourite of the public, staff and volunteers alike.

"When she chooses the bucket of food, we’re sure that she’s going to pick the winning team.”

After a bit of grunting, Susie was coaxed from her straw bed and at first it didn't seem to bode well as she tugged with her teeth at the England flag behind her.

But then there was no dithering as she made a very definite decision from a choice of three food pails marked England, Croatia and Draw.

There was a bit of a tense moment as Susie wrestled with the England flag held by Ouseburn farm business manager Hugh Stolliday

She went straight for the home team, leading local comedian Hal Branson, who was there to oversee proceedings, to announce: "It's England for the win" and he praised Susie for being a "patriotic pig".

Football fans will be keeping fingers crossed as Susie is set to follow up with predictions of the winners in England's other games - against Scotland on June 18 and the Czech Republic on June 22.

If the team progress past the group stage, she'll be rooting out the results in advance of the knock-out rounds too.

Susie follows in a long tradition of claimed forecasts by psychic animals, including camels, meerkats and a famous octopus.

The late octopus, called Paul and lauded as an animal oracle, is said to have successfully predicted the winners of 12 out of 14 football matches in the 2010 World Cup by making a pick from two food boxes marked with the flags of the rival countries.

Top Three Predictions for England vs Croatia

Croatia take on England in UEFA EURO 2020 Group D in London on Sunday 13 June at 15:00 CET. Fate has brought these teams together in several big games over recent years, none bigger than the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final when Croatia came from behind to win 2-1 in extra time. But hopes are high for England, who could be playing the first of six games at Wembley in these finals if everything goes to plan.

All of our tips contain no bias and have been researched using the latest stats and figures available at the time of publication.

Prediction one: Full-Time Result – England to Win

Prediction two: Total Goals – Under 2.5 Goals

Prediction three: Anytime Goalscorer – Harry Kane to Score

All odds are subject to change but the prices shown are correct on the date of publication. Please check with your bookmakers before placing any bets.

England to Win

England have won five and only lost three of their 10 previous games against Croatia, running out 2-1 winners when the pair last met for a Nations League tie in 2018. England have won all of their last six international matches and have only conceded one goal during that period while Croatia have three of their last six fixtures, only managing to beat the likes of Malta and Cyprus.

Under 2.5 Goals

we're expecting a tight and tense 90-minutes between these two countries as both will be eager not to start the tournament with a defeat. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of England's last four matches and in four of Croatia's last five outings, so you can see just why we're not predicting a goal-fest on Sunday.

Harry Kane to Score

Harry Kane has netted 34-goals in 54-caps for England and will captain his country at Euro 2020, so there is a lot of pressure on the Tottenham striker to lead by example. Kane usually performs well at the big tournaments and of course, he is England's No.1 penalty taker and has a fantastic record from the spot. Kane scored 12-goals in the qualifiers for Euro 2020 and has netted 2-goals in his last four appearances for England.
