Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s First Netflix Documentaries: Release Date, What To Expect & More

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took a step back as senior members of the royal family last year and have now made themselves home in California. But having set up production company Archewell Productions, the couple is turning their attention to making television from behind the scenes. Now, their first project has been revealed to be a docu-series will be released on Netflix.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's first show has been announced by Netflix. Earlier today, the streaming service posted from its official Twitter account to confirm what it will be about.

The tweet said: "Incredibly excited to tell you about HEART OF INVICTUS – a new docu-series from Archewell Productions that reveals the human stories and resilient spirit behind the Invictus Games. "The series will join competitors – all service members who’ve suffered life-changing injuries or illnesses – as they train for the next games in The Hague."

So far, a release date hasn't been revealed for when Heart of Invictus will be out. Netflix only announced on Tuesday, April 6, what Prince Harry and Meghan's first project with them is. So it could be quite some time until the docu-series is released on the streaming service, Express noted.

It seems we may be streaming content from the Sussexes as soon as this year. In September of 2020, Netflix’s co-CEO Reed Hastings spoke about the couple’s “wide range of entertainment” telling CNBC’s Squawk Box, “I think it’ll be some of the most exciting, most viewed content next year.”

“Heart of Invictus” will follow a group of international competitors, all service members who experienced life-changing injuries or illnesses on the road to the Invictus Games The Hague 2020, though the competition will now take place in 2022. The series will document their training and reveal their compelling life stories, as well as follow the Games’ organizers as they partner with each nation’s team to support their athletes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s pact with Netflix covers documentaries, feature films, scripted TV series and children’s shows. The couple founded Archewell Productions as a vehicle to produce programming that can “embrace our shared humanity and duty to truth through a compassionate lens,” per the organization’s mission.

In addition to executive producing “Heart of Invictus,” Prince Harry will also appear on camera in the docuseries.

The Invictus Games Foundation will serve as an executive producer. The project will provide “significant funding to the organization,” according to Netflix, supporting the group’s work ahead of the Games at The Hague. As part of that, the international Invictus community is being offered access to virtual sports activities to help their recovery and preparation. After the 2022 Games in the Netherlands, the next one will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany in 2023, Variety cited.

The pair’s multi-year deal is reportedly worth nine figures. A source previously revealed to Us Weekly, “Quibi had a huge offer out to Meghan Markle that was in the tens of millions,” adding, “Netflix swooped in and their production deal is worth over 100 million.”

When the couple’s revised royals were announced in 2020, following their decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, they explained on their now-defunct website SussexRoyal that they would become “privately funded members of The Royal Family with permission to earn their own income and the ability to pursue their own private charitable interests.”, Parade reported.
