Manchester United had Cristiano Ronaldo to thank for a winner deep into injury time in midweek against Villarreal that arguably stopped the knives being out for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

And only a win against Everton in Saturday's lunchtime kick off will do for United after their dismal slip-up last week against Aston Villa.

United had lost three out of four in all competitions ahead of their Champions League clash with the Spaniards and, let's be honest, Villarreal should have been out of sight by half time after they missed chance after chance.

But credit to United, they dug in and their equaliser rejuvenated them. They really need to kick on in the league now and they cannot afford too many more dropped points at home like last week.

Standing in their way are an Everton side who started the season fantastically under Rafa Benitez. The one blip was a heavy defeat also against Aston Villa.

The sides met in a pre-season friendly at the start of August and United won 4-0, but a lot seems to have changed since then. Not least are the injuries bedeviling both sides.

United will be without Harry Maguire and almost certainly Luke Shaw, with Everton missing Seamus Coleman, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Manchester United vs Everton: Date & Time

Manchester United will square off against Everton at Old Trafford on Matchday 7 of the ongoing Premier League season on Saturday, October, 2nd.

Watch Live Manchester United vs Everton live stream anywhere in the world using a VPN

Even if you have subscribed to the relevant Manchester United vs Everton live stream rights holders, you won't be able to access them when outside your own country. The service will know your location based on your IP address, and will automatically block your access.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you get around this obstacle. VPNs are a doddle to use and create a private connection between your device and the internet. All the information passing back and forth is entirely encrypted.

There are many VPN providers out there, with some more reliable and safe than others. As a rule, we’d suggest a paid-for service such as ExpressVPN which offers a 100 per cent risk-free money back guarantee. If you're not happy with the service any time within the first 30 days, then you can cancel with no penalties at all.

ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money back guarantee with its VPN service. You can use it to watch on your mobile, tablet, laptop, TV, games console and more. There's 24/7 customer support and three months free when you sign-up. Try it – you'll be surprised how simple it is.

Watch Live Manchester United vs Everton in the UK

The game will be shown live on BT Sport 2 from 7pm.

There are multiple ways to get BT Sport. If you already have BT Broadband, you can add BT TV and Sport to your existing contract from just £15 per month. You can add the ‘Big Sport’ package for £40 per month, which includes all BT Sport and 11 Sky Sports channels via a NOW pass.

To watch the UEFA Champions League 21/22 campaign in the U.K. you'll need BT Sport because it has the rights to all 125 games in the group and knockout stages.

Prices differ hugely depending on whether you already have BT TV and a BT broadband subscription. If you have both, you can add the Sports package for £15/month plus a £20 upfront fee, or go for the £40/month Big Sports package which also includes all of the Sky Sports channels, giving you a total of 160 live streams.

Another option for non-BT subscribers is the BT Sport Monthly Pass (£25), which lets you watch via an app for a fixed time, with no need for a lengthy commitment.

All sounds great, right? But if you're not in the U.K., you can still follow the games by using one of the best VPN services, such as ExpressVPN.

Sky Sports / NOW

If you prefer, you can build your own package starting with the Sky TV and Netflix combo (£25/month for 18 months at time of writing) and add on the channels that you'd like. For example, if you just wanted to add Sky Sports, then that's currently £20 per month on an 18-month minimum term, and you can add all the BT Sport channels for an extra £27 per month on a 31-day rolling contract.

New customers are usually offered an introductory price – the monthly cost may well go up at the end of the 18-month minimum contract term. If you don't already have Sky, it's also a requirement that you take the base TV package. Sky also notes in its terms and conditions that "prices may go up during your subscription", so be prepared just in case.

Sky has a whopping 11 (Eleven, to go all vidiprinter style for a moment) sports channels. Its offering covers all sorts, from the FA Women's Super League to cricket, motor racing (including Formula 1 and IndyCar), boxing, NBA, golf, rugby league, women's rugby and netball. It also has a rolling news channel, Sky Sports News.

Further football coverage, including EFL games and Scottish football fixtures as well as the German Bundesliga, is usually found on Sky Sports Football.

The primary advantage of NOW membership is that you don't need to have a base Sky package to add your sports subscription onto.

Finally, Virgin Media customers can also take advantage of TV and broadband package options which include Sky Sports.

BT Sport had the rights to just over 50 Premier League fixtures during the 2020/21 campaign, and will also carry coverage of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup until 2024.

Coming up in September and October, you can expect Chelsea v Manchester City (September 25, 12.30), Manchester United v Everton (October 2, 12.30), and Leicester City v Arsenal (October 30, 12.30).

It isn't an exact science, but BT Sport does tend to get a decent number of the Saturday lunchtime fixtures when the games are all divided up. You can also expect to see some 7.45pm kick-offs on Saturdays this season, where teams have played in UEFA's European competitions midweek.

Remember that BT Sport also features coverage from the top flight of French football, Ligue 1, and Italy's top league Serie A. It also holds rights for sports including Moto GP, Premiership Rugby, UFC and WWE as well. And it will also have coverage of the new UEFA Europa Conference League, which will feature Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Here are some of your options:

* BT Sport Monthly Pass (£25 per month, contract free and no need to be a BT Broadband customer)

* Big Sport – BT's Sport package plus Eurosport 1 and 2, AMC from BT, Sky Sports News, and Sky Sports access via NOW membership (£40/month, 24-month contract and £29.99 upfront)

* BT Sport on Sky (Add on to existing Sky package for £29.99/month. Upfront cost is £20 for 12-month contract, and £35 for 1-month rolling contract)

The BT Sport Pack has four main channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3 and BT Sport ESPN. BT Sport has also made a number of feature-length documentaries exclusively available to subscribers.

If you also want BT Broadband, there are a number of further options, all of which you can see and sign up for here. There are options to save on its Sport or Big Sport offerings (as mentioned above, the latter also bundles NOW's Sky Sports membership).

BT now offers more flexibility with a number of its TV packages, which means you can add certain channel packs (including Netflix, NOW and Amazon Prime) and turn them on and off on a month-by-month basis to fit with your budget. Customers on older packages can also switch to the new arrangement without having to wait for their current contract to end.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon usually has around 20 matches per season under the current rights agreement, and in 2019/20, it secured all of the showpiece Boxing Day fixtures.

No Amazon games have been confirmed yet, but watch this space because over the past couple of seasons, the vast majority of its fixtures have aired in that crucial December/January period, which makes the end of the year perfect time to try out the service or re-subscribe if you've been away for a bit.

Other cool football-related pieces of programming in Amazon's library include All or Nothing: Manchester City, going behind the scenes of their successful 2017/18 season, and Six Dreams, a fly-on-the-wall look at La Liga in Spain. A new series of All or Nothing has been commissioned for 2021/22, following Arsenal.

Amazon also broadcasts sports including the US Open tennis championships, other ATP World Tour tennis events and NFL games, and has an increasingly broad library of sports documentaries, from Andy Murray: Resurfacing to Fernando, the series about double Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso. And you can watch tournaments like the Australian Open via the Eurosport Player add-on.

Amazon Prime (including the Premier League football) is priced at £7.99 per month, although if you've not subscribed before, you can access its services on a 30-day trial period.

Manchester United vs Everton: Preview

Preview Manchester United Premier League, Oct 2, 2021

Preview The Red Devils will return to Premier League action after Wednesday's 2-1 win over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League. Both sides appeared to have settled for a point, but a last-gasp effort from Cristiano Ronaldo (90+5') eventually separated the teams. Last weekend, United's title campaign suffered a huge blow with the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Theatre of Dreams. A single goal from Kortney Hause (88') saw United pick up their first defeat of the season: DWWWL. The result also saw the Red Devils drop to 4th place, while left with 13 points after 4W, 1D, & 1L. The Red Devils have an impressive average of 2.17 goals per game with 13 goals in six Premier League games. Conceding only 5 goals, an average of 0.83 goals conceded-per-game, United has a G.D. of +8. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will aim for three points, knowing United has a fantastic record against the Toffees. - Having faced defeat only once in their last 10 encounters against Everton. The 4—2—3—1 formation with Ronaldo at the top of the formation is expected on Saturday. Should the Portuguese ace who came to United's rescue against Villarreal play, then it would be his 200th Premier League appearance in the red colors of the Devils. - The 24th different Manchester United player to reach this statistical milestone. Ronaldo has 87 goals for United in English top-flight football, and he will be on the hunt for the 88th. Marcus Rashford is ruled out alongside Amad Diallo.

Preview Everton Premier League, Oct 2, 2021

Preview Everton defeated Norwich City, 2-0, on home soil last weekend, thanks to goals from Andros Townsend (29' P.) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (77'). Rafael Benítez's side are 5th on the Premier League table, having picked up 13 points from 4W, 1D, & 1L. With three victories in five games: DWWLW, Benitez is unsure whether his team can replicate their fine form against the Red Devils, citing their history. Close on the average goals to United, with 2 goals scored per game, Everton falls short on the average conceded, having 1.17 goals-conceded-per-match. With Rafael Benítez in focus, the 61-year-old has lost more than 75% of his last nine Premier League away matches against the Red Devils. - Seven of them, while winning the other two (2W, 0D, & 7L). Rafael Benítez would likely go with the 4—2—3—1 formation with Salomón Rondón in attack due to the unavailability of Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It was 1892 the first time this game was played in the top flight, with over 200 meetings to date.

Manchester United have won 90 to Everton's 70, but the most recent encounter ended in a 3-3 draw when they faced off at Old Trafford in February of last season. The Toffees came from behind on three occasions that day, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring a third equaliser at the death.

Home and away, United have only won one of their last five Premier League games against Everton. Three of those ended in draws, while one was a famous 4-0 thrashing at Goodison Park in 2019.

Manchester United vs Everton: Prediction

Manchester United have been in a bit of a sticky patch of late and have needed late goals to secure their two most recent wins against West Ham and Villarreal. In amongst that, they have also lost against the Hammers, Aston Villa and Young Boys.

However, the nature of the win over Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek and the atmosphere at Old Trafford that night should boost confidence.

For Everton, this will be their toughest test of the new campaign so far, having not yet played anyone who finished higher than ninth in the Premier League last season. Their injury absences will likely be more of an issue than United's, which could prove to be key.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-1 Everton

Manchester United vs Everton: Players to watch

Edinson Cavani made a big difference to United when he came on in midweek. He's a class act who could well get the nod to start here and has ten goals in 15 league starts for United. He's 13/10 to score anytime.

Andros Townsend has a handy knack of scoring big goals for Everton and has already got four this season. He also takes the penalties. He's 15/2 to score here with Paddy Power.

Manchester United vs Everton: Recent Form

Manchester United has managed to get an upper hand over the Merseysiders. But despite having a potent attacking force the Red Devils have visibly toiled hard to breach their opponent defence. Cristiano Ronaldo oftens can bee seen roaming alone upfront which could be a major problem as they have a number of tricky fixtures coming towards them.

Even the United manager admitted their gameplay in the opposition final third needs to get better if they are to win games. “I thought we were very good in the transitions, defensively we won the ball in good positions and we attacked quickly. But when we got up there, the final decision, the final execution, the quality in the pass or the shot or decision wasn’t good enough to get goals. The game ebbed and flowed and was probably a good game for the neutrals but unfortunately, we didn’t get a goal.”

On the back of a very positive start Rafa Benitez will definitely fancy his chances against a shaky United. The arrival of Demarai Gray from Leicester City seems to have added a new flair to their attack as the winger hit the ground running from the very first day.

Everton’s attack needed an uplift and Gray’s sheer pace and direct approach has been a major boost. Their attacking unit has put a good performance so far and United defence needs to be at their best to thwart their actions on the pitch.

United’s home form has been quite worrisome as they have failed to make things work infront of their vociferous crowd. They have been a completely different side in their away games ans Solskjaer needs to rectify the problems at the earliest.

Following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane they were billed as one of the potential candidates for the Premier League trophy. But Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have already shown their title ambitions and United need to act first if they want to end their trophy drought.
