That's it, it's over! Belgium have eliminated the Euro 2016 winners Portugal. They do so thanks to Thorgan Hazard's first half strike and a solid defensive performance in the second half, combined with a couple of important interventions from Thibaut Courtois. It's Italy in the quarter-finals now for Belgium.

This is the closest Portugal have come! Raphael Guerreiro hits a volley and it looks like it's sneaking in, only for his strike to rebound off the post. Belgium almost break up the other end, butit's still just 1-0.

Portugal are pushing and pushing and this time they get off a shot on target. But, Courtois is perfectly positioned to push away Ruben Dias' header. It's still 1-0 to Belgium.

Minute 77: It's getting feisty

There are some harsh challenges as we enter the final quarter of an hour. One of them comes from Pepe, to nobody's surprise. He knocks Thorgan Hazard down and the Belgian players charge in his direction. It's just a yellow for Pepe, decides the referee.

Minute 72: Cristiano Ronaldo's freekick is blocked

It's the second dangerous freekick for Cristiano Ronaldo of this match, after forcing a save from Courtois in the first half. This time, though, the No.7 strikes it into a Belgian defender. Belgium are still holding on.

Eden Hazard hits the deck, but play is waved on. That sparks a mini scuffle once play does stop, with the Portuguese players accusing Belgium of time wasting.

Netherlands 0-2 Czech Republic: Holes inspires shock win after De Ligt red card

Striker Patrik Schick scored his fourth goal of the tournament as the Czech Republic stunned 10-man Netherlands with a deserved 2-0 victory in their European Championship last-16 clash in front of 56,000 fans at the Puskas Arena on Sunday.

The Czech Republic reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 with a surprise 2-0 win over the Netherlands, who had Matthijs de Ligt sent off.

A close game in Budapest swung the way of Jaroslav Silhavy's men 55 minutes in when De Ligt was dismissed for a deliberate handball that prevented Patrik Schick from having a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Tomas Holes then headed in the opening goal before superbly setting up Schick for the second as the Czech Republic progressed to the last eight, where they face Denmark.

The majority of the Netherlands' first-half threat came through the forward runs of Denzel Dumfries, the right-back posing a real danger down the right but unable to provide for Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen.

The best of the first-half chances fell to Antonin Barak, who was teed up by Lukas Masopust but saw his effort from six yards out just blocked over the bar by De Ligt.

Malen carved out a brilliant opening to break the deadlock, driving his way through the Czech Republic defence only to see Tomas Vaclik take the ball from his feet as he tried to round the goalkeeper.

Moments later, De Ligt misjudged a bouncing ball and hooked it away from Patrik Schick with his hand as he fell, leading referee Sergey Karasev to send off the centre-back after a VAR review.

Pavel Kaderabek had a great chance when Schick missed a header, but Dumfries made a brilliant block in front of keeper Maarten Stekelenburg, the Netherlands suddenly on the ropes.

The breakthrough came with a little over 20 minutes left, Holes heading into the net after Tomas Kalas nodded the ball back across the box, with Stekelenburg caught out of position.

Frank de Boer introduced Wout Weghorst in a bid to find an equaliser, but Schick put the game beyond doubt with a slick low finish after Holes drove through a gap between Georginio Wijnaldum and Dumfries before cutting the ball back.

There would be no better time for the Czech Republic to record a third successive victory over the Netherlands, and they ought to be spurred on by the chance to emulate the 2004 luminaries.

However, De Boer's Oranje have quality in abundance in all areas of the pitch and firmly laid down a marker with their group-stage performances, so we can only back the Netherlands to safely advance to the last eight.

The Netherlands don't have the best of records against the Czech Republic but at Euro 2020, they have shown themselves to be genuine contenders to win the competition. De Boer's side had a 100% record in the group stage and always played on the front foot, scoring 8-goals and conceding two.

Czech Republic lost against England, beat Scotland, and drew against Croatia. They too are a one-time EURO winner, when it was still part of Czechoslovakia, in 1976. Since becoming an independent nation, the Czechs have been present at seven successive final tournaments. Budapest is not far from the Czech border and many Czechs are expected in Budapest to face off with the famed Orange Army. How important is their ‘near home’ advantage going to be today?
