Full time: BELGIUM ELIMINATE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

That's it, it's over! Belgium have eliminated the Euro 2016 winners Portugal. They do so thanks to Thorgan Hazard's first half strike and a solid defensive performance in the second half, combined with a couple of important interventions from Thibaut Courtois. It's Italy in the quarter-finals now for Belgium.

Second Half

Minute 90+3: Carrasco messes up a counter attack

Belgium have a three-on-two counter attack as they look to kill off the game, but Yannick Carrasco isn't able to feed the ball to Youri Tielemans. That was a waste, but it might not matter.

Minute 90: Five minutes of stoppage time

Portugal have five more minutes to stay alive, otherwise they'll be giving up their European trophy this summer. Let's see if they can equalise.

Minute 87: Another save from Courtois

Courtois is alert and brave, getting down low to get to a dropping ball before Andre Silva. The Belgian goalkeeper looks hurt, but is able to continue as Belgium look to take this lead to the finish line.

Minute 83: Guerreiro strikes the post!

This is the closest Portugal have come! Raphael Guerreiro hits a volley and it looks like it's sneaking in, only for his strike to rebound off the post. Belgium almost break up the other end, butit's still just 1-0.

Minute 82: Courtois denies Ruben Dias

Portugal are pushing and pushing and this time they get off a shot on target. But, Courtois is perfectly positioned to push away Ruben Dias' header. It's still 1-0 to Belgium.

Minute 77: It's getting feisty

There are some harsh challenges as we enter the final quarter of an hour. One of them comes from Pepe, to nobody's surprise. He knocks Thorgan Hazard down and the Belgian players charge in his direction. It's just a yellow for Pepe, decides the referee.

Minute 72: Cristiano Ronaldo's freekick is blocked

It's the second dangerous freekick for Cristiano Ronaldo of this match, after forcing a save from Courtois in the first half. This time, though, the No.7 strikes it into a Belgian defender. Belgium are still holding on.

Minute 69: A scuffle as Eden Hazard goes down

Eden Hazard hits the deck, but play is waved on. That sparks a mini scuffle once play does stop, with the Portuguese players accusing Belgium of time wasting.

Minute 65: The Hazard brothers are connecting well

Thorgan and Eden Hazard have combined well on Belgium's left, finding players in space when there are some and slowing the game down when they have to

Portugal have 45 minutes ahead to try to solve this situation, otherwise they'll be watching the rest of the tournament from home. The Portuguese haven't been bad. They just came up against a very special Thorgan Hazard shot.

Minute 60: Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes enter the fray

Portugal are pushing. Diogo Jota hits a decent chance well over, while Fernando Santos has also sent on Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes. These are Joao Felix's first minutes of the tournament and he quickly has a header that Courtoishas to save. Let's see if the youngster can make the difference.

Minute 55: Counter attacks from Belgium

With Portugal more and more on the front foot, Belgium are looking to counter attack. They haven't been able to put together a perfect break yet, but they're warned Portugal that they can't leave so much space at the back.

Minute 48: De Bruyne is off injured!

It's not a good start to the second half for Belgium, as Kevin de Bruyne very quickly realises that he can't continue. He seemed to hurt his ankle during a collision in the first half and it looks like that's the issue. Dries Mertens comes on in his place, but this is a big blow.

HT: Belgium 1-0 Portugal

The first truly heavyweight clash of the Euro 2020 knockout stages takes place in Seville this evening as defending champions Portugal face world No1 Belgium.

GOAL! Belgium 1-0 Portugal | Thorgan Hazard 42’

Wonderful goal!

This game hasn’t threatened anything like this but it’s a moment of brilliance from Hazard, who finds space on the edge of the box and lashes a dipping, swerving effort into the far corner.

Belgium to Win:

Betting Tips

2pts Belgium to win in 90 minutes at 6/4 (General)

Score prediction: Belgium 2-1 Portugal (Sky Bet odds: 8/1)

Odds correct 1200 BST (25/06/21)

Belgium finished third at the 2018 World Cup but have not advanced past the quarter-finals of a European Championship since finishing as runners-up in 1980, meaning that their experience in the latter stages is limited despite now being considered as one of the finest sides in international football.

Portugal, as mentioned, ultimately qualified from Group F in third position, having picked up a 2-2 draw against France on Wednesday night. The section provided all sorts of twists and turns in the final gameweek, but a spirited Hungary ultimately finished fourth to exit the competition.

A Selecao are, of course, the holders of the European Championship, having triumphed at Euro 2016; they also reached the semi-finals in 2000 and 2012, in addition to claiming the runners-up spot at Euro 2004, which is an indication of their credentials in this famous competition.

Belgium breezed into the knockout round by winning all three of their Group B fixtures to top the section, while Portugal ultimately qualified from Group F in third behind France and Germany. Prediction: Belgium 1-1 Portugal (Portugal win on penalties).

This is an incredibly difficult game to call, as it really is a flip of the coin. Both teams will feel that they can hurt the other in the final third of the field, and it is set to be a fascinating contest in Seville. We are finding it tough to separate the two teams over the course of 90 minutes and indeed extra-time and have therefore settled on Portugal advancing to the quarter-finals courtesy of a penalty-shootout success.

For Belgium’s golden generation a tournament win has become something of a must. For their older players it is now or never. The squad is filled with experience and sheer talent with players such as Lulaku, De Bruyne and Hazard, to name just a few. Belgium won all their group matches (against Denmark, Finland and Russia) but the Red Devils will need to bring all their tricks and rituals to beat the champions.

Portugal survived the Group of Death as the number 3. They beat Hungary but were defeated by Germany in spectacular fashion and themselves. A draw against reigning World Champions France was enough for the next round. Ronaldo is on fire; he scored 5 goals this tournament so far. After a disappointing season at Juventus, it seems CR7 has something to prove. But can his teammates follow their 36-year-old sugar-free captain?

Netherlands 0-2 Czech Republic: Holes inspires shock win after De Ligt red card

Striker Patrik Schick scored his fourth goal of the tournament as the Czech Republic stunned 10-man Netherlands with a deserved 2-0 victory in their European Championship last-16 clash in front of 56,000 fans at the Puskas Arena on Sunday.

The Czech Republic reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 with a surprise 2-0 win over the Netherlands, who had Matthijs de Ligt sent off.

A close game in Budapest swung the way of Jaroslav Silhavy's men 55 minutes in when De Ligt was dismissed for a deliberate handball that prevented Patrik Schick from having a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Tomas Holes then headed in the opening goal before superbly setting up Schick for the second as the Czech Republic progressed to the last eight, where they face Denmark.

The majority of the Netherlands' first-half threat came through the forward runs of Denzel Dumfries, the right-back posing a real danger down the right but unable to provide for Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen.

The best of the first-half chances fell to Antonin Barak, who was teed up by Lukas Masopust but saw his effort from six yards out just blocked over the bar by De Ligt.

Malen carved out a brilliant opening to break the deadlock, driving his way through the Czech Republic defence only to see Tomas Vaclik take the ball from his feet as he tried to round the goalkeeper.

Moments later, De Ligt misjudged a bouncing ball and hooked it away from Patrik Schick with his hand as he fell, leading referee Sergey Karasev to send off the centre-back after a VAR review.

Pavel Kaderabek had a great chance when Schick missed a header, but Dumfries made a brilliant block in front of keeper Maarten Stekelenburg, the Netherlands suddenly on the ropes.

The breakthrough came with a little over 20 minutes left, Holes heading into the net after Tomas Kalas nodded the ball back across the box, with Stekelenburg caught out of position.

Frank de Boer introduced Wout Weghorst in a bid to find an equaliser, but Schick put the game beyond doubt with a slick low finish after Holes drove through a gap between Georginio Wijnaldum and Dumfries before cutting the ball back.

Preview and Predictions:

There would be no better time for the Czech Republic to record a third successive victory over the Netherlands, and they ought to be spurred on by the chance to emulate the 2004 luminaries.

However, De Boer's Oranje have quality in abundance in all areas of the pitch and firmly laid down a marker with their group-stage performances, so we can only back the Netherlands to safely advance to the last eight.

The Netherlands don't have the best of records against the Czech Republic but at Euro 2020, they have shown themselves to be genuine contenders to win the competition. De Boer's side had a 100% record in the group stage and always played on the front foot, scoring 8-goals and conceding two.

The Czech Republic lost their last game against England and have now lost three of their last six international matches, including a 4-0 defeat against Italy.

The Netherlands had a rocky preparation but won all their group matches (against Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia) and scored the most group goals in the process, eight in total. Although the one-time EURO winner (1988) is not considered a favourite for the title, the Dutch masters are one of the (rising) dark horses. Will the lowlands experience another high today against the Czechs?

The Czechs survived group D despite coming in third, losing the second place to Croatia only on goals scored. Czech Republic lost against England, beat Scotland, and drew against Croatia. They too are a one-time EURO winner, when it was still part of Czechoslovakia, in 1976. Since becoming an independent nation, the Czechs have been present at seven successive final tournaments. Budapest is not far from the Czech border and many Czechs are expected in Budapest to face off with the famed Orange Army.

How important is their ‘near home’ advantage going to be today?
