Are you looking for ideas on how to style a bixie cut? Then we are here to help you out with some. Most people doubt about getting a pixie haircut because of everyday styling myths that surround this haircut. We would like to break them for you with our best tips, tricks, and ideas that will make you look gorgeous every day.

Bixie Haircut - What Is It?

When you hear this word for the first time, you may think you misunderstood it. Is it indeed bixie, not pixie? Are you sure?! Yes, we are sure. And the fact that you might not hear about this haircut style is very simple: it has just appeared in the world of haircuts!

So what is it? Well, bixie is a word that is combined of the two haircut names that you know perfectly well.

They are pixie and bob haircuts. When put together, they create…bixie! So eventually, a bixie haircut combines the major features of these two haircuts.

If you compare a bixie haircut with the other two (meaning bob and pixie), you will see what we mean. From the bob haircut (inverted bob, to be precise), bixie took the long fringe, sides, and the front with a short back cut in stacked layers.

And from the pixie haircut, it inherited the overall look and shape. So basically, you could say that bixie is actually a pixie hairstyle that is just somewhat longer.

Will the Bixie Haircut Look Different in 2022?

"From what I've seen, the bixie has been popular for a while and will remain so," says Yureesh. "The difference lies in our current style aesthetic."

That said, nowadays we're seeing the beauty industry embrace inclusivity and diversity, and that extends to hair. Yureesh predicts the bixie haircut will now be more customizable to suit all different hair types and textures, unlike in the past when it was mostly seen on straight hair.

Vincilione agrees. "The haircut looks and feels the same, but it makes a stronger statement with polished styling, shine, healthy color, and a modern play on texture," he tells InStyle.

What Should I Consider Before Getting a Bixie?

The biggest thing to consider before getting the bixie haircut is the commitment. "Styling is the most important commitment when going short," says Vincilione. "Consult with your hairstylist on length, haircare, and styling so you can both come up with a customized plan for maintaining the look."

Yureesh adds that this haircut is best for those who would like something shorter than a bob but aren't ready to commit to a pixie haircut.

Make your bang look soft

Don`t you think that making your hair look soft is the best way how to style a pixie cut? You may wonder how to get the soft effect? Easily! Carefully style your pixie haircut with a brush and a hairdryer to get a bit of volume. Be careful with your bangs as they are the most important part of your hairstyle. To get the desired effect for them, use a flat iron on some parts and separate them using your fingers to get a piecey effect.

But Don't Over Do It

Waxes and pomades are great for getting a piecey texture, but use too much and you could wind up with a greasy, spiky Kate Gosselin situation. A dime-size dab is usually enough to get a roughed-up look, like Jennifer Lawrence's here. Or if you don't trust your ability to practice pomade restraint, follow hairstylist Anh Co Tran's advice and avoid it altogether: "I like to use beach spray on dry hair to add grit and make hair look a little bit dirty and sexy," he says.

Add texture with styling products

The key thing you need to understand is that sometimes styling short haircut is impossible without products that will add texture. This applies to frizzy or curly hair especially. That is why don`t be afraid to use some styling products, even though you should be careful about not applying too much. There is such a great variety of products on the market now (fixing sprays, waxes or creams), so choose the one you prefer the most and be sure to look gorgeous any time!

Try a different parting

Are you looking for some ideas on how to style a pixie cut? Then this one is perfect! If one day you wake up and understand that you want something more creative, it is just fine. Appropriate for a daily basis as well as night partying, this side part hairstyle idea is great! It will definitely make you look different, bringing in something new but not making you look too much!

Add Volume

A little bit of lift can turn a cool cut glamorous—and adding volume is easy. "Long hair has all of that bulk and weight pulling it down, but a short cut can make you feel like you suddenly have so much more hair," says Rogers. To get Miley Cyrus's look here, he recommends running a lightweight volumizer, like Living Proof Amp² Instant Texture Volumizer (he is the brand's creative director), through hair and gently lifting it up with your fingers as you blow-dry. For even more body, flip your head upside down while you're blow-drying it—the va-va-voom results will make the head rush worthwhile.

Prepare for your bixie style in 5 minutes

A bold pixie can speak volumes and styling can be a breeze with a few time-saving solutions.

No pressure, but the first 30 seconds of styling a pixie are critical for securing the ideal shape. To set the stage, quickly prep damp hair with a priming spray or treatment cream after stepping out of the shower. These time-savers can help cut blow dry time in half and make your life easier without weighing your hair down. Plus, they offer built-in heat protection and can help preserve the health of your hair. During this step, you’ll also want to part hair according to your preference, whether it’s a deep side part or down the middle.

1:00 BLOW DRY

A major bonus of going short is that your natural texture can shine through by only blow drying hair until it’s roughly 50 percent dry. If you have naturally straight hair, free-hand your blowout and concentrate heat at the roots using a round brush to achieve va-va voom volume. If you’re working with curly hair use a diffuser to blow dry hair, focusing the heat on the ends. Don’t worry about making it perfect — you can polish things off during the styling stage. If you’re really pressed for time and can’t heat style, reach for a cream like No Blow Dry and allow hair to air-dry. The flexible formula can help give hair just the right amount of movement it needs.

3:00 CREATE THE PERFECT PIXIE HAIR STYLE

Edgier pixies require a texturizing powder to pull off modern piece-y texture.

Depending on the look you’re going for, pixies can be styled in a number of ways. If the length of your cut allows for it, slick down freshly blow-dried hair using Hardwear 16 and brush hair in a sideswept motion for a sleek look. To rock a chic disheveled look, opt for a texturizing hair powder. Sprinkle the product throughout the roots and use your fingertips to distribute the powder for a natural lift.

Is a trendy pompadour right up your alley? Use Quick Tease and a comb to tease hair at the roots and brush back using a flat brush. For extra height, use a 1-inch curling iron to curl hair up and away from the face. Follow up by using your fingertips to apply a pliable styling paste like Rewind to give the pompadour more shape. To get an even application, emulsify (rub) the product in your hands to break it down. You can also use a flat iron to smooth away any pieces of hair that are out of place or add wispy curls and waves.

4:00 ADD SOME SHINE

To really dress up a pixie, glossy hair is the way to go. If your haircolor has a high contrast or is on the darker side, it will naturally reflect shine. Lighter haircolors can turn up the shine with the help of styling aids. Spray hair with a shot of a glistening hair mist to help score a stunning glossy sheen. On the flipside, if shiny hair isn’t your thing, you can also spray hair with wax aerosol for a lived-in matte finish.

4:30 SET YOUR PIXIE

Dress up a pixie by using a shine mist to achieve a beautifully glossy sheen.

Finish off by spraying the hair with Triple Take to help achieve maximum staying power sans the crunch. A high control spray can do wonders for keeping unruly layers in check, especially if your cut is choppy. If you want a workable product that helps keep humidity at bay, use a fast-drying spray like Fashion Work. Now you’re ready to take on the day (or night) with a pixie that looks like it was styled by a pro!

Try braided!

Braid your pixie for an unexpected hairstyle that looks both romantic yet edgy.

To get Julianne Hough's look, add some texture to your hair with Amika's Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($25), which will give the hair grip and make your braid hold all day long and well into the night.

Braid diagonally across the crown of the head, pulling some pieces of the braid loose to get that disheveled look.

Pin the ends into place to secure the braid.
