The former mayor of El Salvador’s capital won a landslide victory in the 2019 election, winning more votes than his two closest rivals combined and ending three decades of a two-party system in the violence-plagued Central American country. He won over the public with his strong stance against corruption, making the fight against it a big part of his political agenda.

Nayib was elected mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán on March 11, 2012, representing the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) coalition. He had a successful three-year term by providing for the community’s elderly, giving scholarships, and cutting homicide rates considerably.

After that, he proceeded to run for mayor in El Salvador’s capital city, San Salvador, in 2015. He restored electric lines, remodeled buildings, and broadened roads. However, he was removed from the FMLN in 2017 after allegedly attacking fellow party members.

Still, this did not stop him from reaching bigger goals. His ambitions for 2019 have shifted to running for president as an independent who opposes the present system. And he won, with 53% of the votes on his side. He assumed office on June 1, 2019.

Bukele has a long way to his political career. Despite being the president of El Salvador, he also became the president of the GANA party.

He is the first one after Jose Napoleon Duarte to be in the two major political parties.

Moreover, he is the founder of Nuevas Ideas, the political party.

Starting his career in politics, he has become very successful in it. Being an outstanding politician and businessman, Nayib must have lived a decent life.
