Just hours before the fatal car attack at Germany’s Christmas market, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, the 50-year-old Saudi doctor behind the incident, took to social media to express his anger over what he described as German authorities' persecution of him.

His social media accounts were filled with support for far-right figures and groups, including Germany’s anti-immigration AfD party, Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

According to reports, just after 7:00 pm local time (1800 GMT) on Friday (Dec 20), a black BMW barrelled through revellers at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, around 150 kilometres (93 miles) west of Berlin.
The attack killed at least two, including a toddler, while over 60 people were injured as the vehicle barrelled through revellers at high speed.

German police have arrested a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia, suspected of driving a car into a crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg.
Commenting on the incident, which authorities are treating as a terror attack, Premier Haseloff said: "We have arrested the perpetrator, a man from Saudi Arabia, a doctor who has been in Germany since 2006. From what we currently know, he was a lone attacker, so we don't think there is any further danger."
The Day of the Attack
On the evening of the attack, Al Abdulmohsen allegedly drove a rented vehicle into the crowded Christmas market, resulting in at least two fatalities, including a child, and injuring numerous others. Authorities have stated that he acted alone, and there is no ongoing threat to the city. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact motive behind the attack.

Witness accounts suggest that the suspect acted alone, driving a black BMW at high speed into the crowded market. Security footage corroborates these testimonies, showing the car veering onto pedestrian pathways with no apparent attempt to slow down or avoid individuals.
Reports indicate that the suspect was apprehended at the scene without resistance. Eyewitnesses described him as calm and unresponsive during his arrest, a demeanor that has added to the intrigue surrounding his motives.
